Avicii – Wake Me Up – Deconstruction

Avicii’s opening intro on this video that was put together shows 2 girls which stereotypically look like sister that are just waking up, which is the first thing that links to the song title. The fact that they are both wearing white gowns connotes that they are pure; it shows that they are not bad people and also by just the way they look.

Following on from the first screenshot you can see clearly that the younger sister has a pattern type object on her arm which could mean that they are part of a group or it could be a sign that they are indeed sister as it shows the sign on both of their arms. In fact what that sign really is, is Avicii’s logo, that is his little sign to prove who he is or even his identify,

Carrying on into the music video the story line brings the 2 girls out of their apartment and into the neighbourhood that they are staying within, and the first picture clearly shows the older sister almost protecting her because they are getting looked at weirdly by the other people in the neighbourhood. This could be because of the cloths they are wearing as some parts of America, stereotypically have towns which look quite like what the old ‘Wild Wes’ towns would look like, and you can see that by looking deeper into the backgrounds of the close up shots and mid shots taken of the people; even almost dressed in what they would where. The 2 main characters are seen to be finding it hard in a town where they feel uncomfortable and safe or finding it hard to live because in the back there is a closed sign in the shop window which can minimize that amount of jobs left in the town, this would be aimed more towards the older sister.

These 2 other screenshots I have taken out from the middle part of the video and another from the end this is because I believe that they are connected in the same way that they are free. In the left hand picture it clearly shows the older sister with an obvious passion for horses riding down a pathway where they would grow trees and in the right hand picture is an image of one of Avicii’s concerts, the similarity in both these pictures relate to freedom and to enjoy yourself.

I have chosen this song out of one of Avicii’s play lists because I am going to be using one of his songs in my music video that I am creating, for my A2 level. The song that I have chosen to play as the background song to my video is “Avicii – The nights.
