RELEASE DATE 8 APRIL 2013
Safety drives the digital plant upgrade, say AVEVA
New business paper examines how 3D laser surveying technology
can transform brownfield asset information
Manchester, UK - 8 April 2013: AVEVA today announced its publication of a
new business paper – Seeing Through the Fog – describing how recent advances
in both 3D laser surveying and Information Management technology combine to
enable the capture and use of an accurate digital counterpart of a brownfield
plant. It explains how Owner Operators of existing facilities can now take
advantage of the kind of „digital plant‟ information asset created in new-build
projects.
“A third of plant information is typically out of date within five years, but users
may not know which third, so it is easy to see how this can compromise plant
safety for Owner Operators,” said Bruce Douglas, Senior Vice-President, EDS
Strategy & Marketing, AVEVA. “The inability to share trustworthy information
easily across a site not only hampers normal operations, it makes it difficult to
find vital information rapidly when responding to an incident.”
Whether a plant is brand-new or decades old, Owner Operators need rapid access
to comprehensive and reliable information. One essential element of this is
accurate knowledge of the true as-operating condition of the plant. Laser
surveying offers a rapid, non-invasive and affordable means of creating accurate
and detailed 3D representation of brownfield assets. The business paper discusses
the capture of the as-operating asset using 3D laser scanning and how technology
can then add intelligence to the scan and link 3D objects to their associated
information in many other sources.
“Asset information exists in a variety of incompatible forms,” added Dave Coppin,
Executive Vice President, Enterprise Solutions, AVEVA. “Operations personnel
waste considerable effort in finding and verifying the necessary information for
essential tasks. In an emergency, this can be critical. Information management
technology now provides the solution to this problem, but it cannot create
information where none exists. That is the power of laser scanning; now it
becomes practical and affordable to capture the as-operating asset and build up a
„digital plant‟ information asset. Safety and operational excellence are the primary
drivers for doing this, but the practical benefits cover every aspect of plant
operations.”
The paper further examines how, by going beyond simply visualising data, laser
scan models can also be used for purposes such as determining accessibility or
space constraints when performing risk assessments or the planning of major
maintenance tasks.

RELEASE DATE 21 FEBRUARY 2013
New AVEVA Catalogue Manager increases project
profitability
New addition to the AVEVA Enterprise Resource Management
product family offers fast, multi-disciplinary creation and maintenance of accurate Plant and Marine catalogue information
Cambridge, UK – 21 February 2013: AVEVA today announced the launch of
AVEVA Catalogue Manager, a ground-breaking new product set, to save
significant man-hours in large capital projects through the rapid, streamlined
generation of accurate and consistent part numbers, component specifications
and bulk material catalogues.
AVEVA Catalogue Manager‟s unique capabilities offer considerable benefits in the
management of engineering materials and resources. Whereas its nearest
competitors are mainly limited to piping, AVEVA Catalogue Manager is truly
multidiscipline, allowing engineers to globally manage complex specifications
across all material categories. Data can be consistently controlled across a
number of systems, including engineering, design, materials management and
procurement, to improve information governance and project profitability.
“The cataloguing and project selection of bulk material is a complex, critical-path
process,” says Derek Middlemas, COO and Head of Enterprise Solutions,
AVEVA. “If not structured and managed effectively, it leads to poor project
performance and higher material costs. We are dedicated to creating solutions
for our customers that reduce project risk, increase efficiency and improve project
quality. Complete control over the digital information asset is vital, and this new
product provides a logical first step for customers deploying an enterprise-wide
resource management solution.”
AVEVA Catalogue Manager allows Engineering, Procurement and Construction
contractors (EPCs) to standardise their engineering information, and Owner
Operators to consolidate the use of common components across multiple assets
within their own corporate catalogue. Shipbuilders expanding into offshore and
plant construction projects can also benefit from AVEVA Catalogue Manager‟s
capabilities.
“Previously, a full list of reference data needed to be produced before catalogue
creation could begin, a process that could take six to nine months to complete,”
continues Mr. Middlemas. “Some vendors provided a „standard database‟ – a large
directory of reference data items – but often two thirds of the data would be
irrelevant to the customer and the remaining third would only get them halfway
to their goal. AVEVA Catalogue Manager removes this bottleneck by enabling the
parallel creation of the catalogue alongside the reference data, delivering
immediate benefits.”

In addition to flexible integration options for third-party design applications,
AVEVA Catalogue Manager integrates out of the box with AVEVA PDMS and the
new AVEVA Everything3D design tools. This enables generated component codes
to be mapped to design characteristics, further shortening the creation of
specifications and other associated information in the Design phase, all under full
revision control.
Requiring only a fraction of the user training of competitor products and typically
half the usual time to create a specification, AVEVA‟s Catalogue Manager will save
significant time and effort.
AVEVA Catalogue Manager‟s in-built flexibility enables it to be deployed as a
stand-alone product, integrated into an AVEVA or third-party design environment,
or as a part of the fully integrated AVEVA Enterprise Resource Management
solution. It can be used at project, regional or global enterprise level.
AVEVA Enterprise Resource Management provides a completely integrated
planning, materials and construction management solution to enable greater
project efficiency and profitability. To learn more visit

configuration. We are very pleased with the initial results of the new
implementation and the strengthening partnership we are building with AVEVA.”
Laurent Perry, CAD Tools Suite project manager, EDF added, ”This is a very
strategic contract. In addition to the use of the new AVEVA Plant software within
EDF, its use will also be mandated for all EDF subcontractors. It is key to manage
the flow of schematics and 3D engineering data between all parties involved in
the design and construction process.”
“EDF already works in a complex space, so it does not want its 3D engineering
and design technology to create more challenges”, added Fredy Ktourza, Senior
Vice President – West EMEA, AVEVA. “We worked closely with EDF in order to
ensure our software is configured to meet their specific requirements. They will
now be able to work between the various models using an Integrated Engineering
& Design approach. EDF can operate safely in the knowledge they have access to
proven, world-class data management, ensuring the integrity and quality of their
complex major capital projects.”

RELEASE DATE 10 OCTOBER 2012
AVEVA launches the new AVEVA NET
Gatekeeper and AVEVA Change Manager
New products promote assured information reliability
throughout the asset lifecycle, for increased operational efficiency and regulatory compliance
Cambridge, UK –10 October 2012 – AVEVA today announced the launch of
AVEVA NET Gatekeeper and AVEVA Change Manager, two new additions to the
AVEVA Enterprise portfolio that together ensure information integrity throughout
the asset lifecycle, supporting safety, operational efficiency and maintaining
regulatory compliance.
Best practice in major capital development projects requires that the handover of
the huge volume of information from the project‟s Engineering Contractor (EPC)
to the Owner Operator (OO) is phased throughout the life of the project rather
than delivered retrospectively en masse. To manage this efficiently requires that
all technical information related to every specific asset be confirmed for
consistency, accuracy and completeness against a predefined set of information
standards.
The new AVEVA NET Gatekeeper manages the handover of technical information,
gathered from any source system, and simultaneously validates its integrity
against the project information standards, before it is accepted into the AVEVA
NET Workhub. It generates detailed reports on the accuracy of all information
for any necessary correction by the information owner, ensuring that only
accepted, validated information is made available for visualisation and
contextualisation.
Throughout the life of an asset changes are inevitable, and adjustments or
enhancements to the validated information resulting from in-project changes,
brownfield modifications or technical information clean-ups also need to be
rigorously controlled. Working with AVEVA NET Gatekeeper, the new AVEVA
Change Manager maintains information integrity and regulatory compliance
through fully-audited, best-practice information change management processes.
As a result, Owner Operators can make informed decisions based on an
interactive overview of all changes made across projects, and ensure
trustworthiness of all information throughout the entire life of the „as-built‟ asset.
“We work closely with our customers to fully understand their concerns about
meeting information standards for effective and accurate handovers and
maintaining integrity during the operational phase of an asset”, said Derek
Middlemas, COO and Head of Enterprise Solutions, AVEVA. “Using conventional

tools, inaccuracies may not be discovered until - or even after - the final data
handover stage. Sometimes they can even remaining undetected through
successive stages of a project.
“Making significant changes to an asset or process based on inaccurate,
incomplete, inconsistent or inappropriate information could, at best, result in
significant cost, due to major project rework and delays or, at worst, could impair
asset performance or present significant safety and environmental hazards. These
two new products ensure the complete reliability and integrity of all technical
information to help eradicate such issues.”
Delegates at the AVEVA World Summit 2012 will be able to learn more and
experience a live demonstration of both new products. More information is
available at www.aveva.com/enterprise.

RELEASE DATE 24 SEPTEMBER 2012
AVEVA expands partnership with CNPDC in China
Memorandum of Cooperation signed for closer strategic relationship
Beijing, China – 24 September 2012: AVEVA (LSE:AVV), announced today
that it has signed a strategic Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with China
Nuclear Power Design Company Ltd. (CNPDC), China‟s first professional nuclear
power design company and a strategically central entity within the GuangDong
Nuclear Group, China‟s second-largest nuclear player. This strategic agreement
builds on a strong existing relationship between AVEVA and CNPDC that dates
back to 2001. Over the years, CNPDC has continued to invest in AVEVA software
solutions, which have been deployed on 26 projects. Using AVEVA technology,
CNPDC has created a successful multi-site project management environment that has improved design quality and efficiency.
One of the highlights of the agreement is CNPDC‟s pledge to use AVEVA‟s PDMS
for its AP1000 (Westinghouse) and Chinese 3rd generation nuclear builds. They already use PDMS exclusively for all Areva-technology nuclear projects.
“AVEVA and CNPDC recognise the fantastic opportunity and value of our strategic
cooperation in the Chinese power industry,” said Paul Eveleigh, AVEVA Executive
Vice President for Greater China. ”We signed the MoC in order to collaborate
together on mutually beneficial initiatives including jointly-developed applications
for wider distribution, technical support and training. It is very exciting to see
these new programmes rolling out which will further enhance our valuable long
term relationship. I believe our strengthening partnership with CNPDC will bring
tremendous benefits to both parties.”
CNPDC has been invited to become an AVEVA „Lighthouse‟ partner, giving them
the opportunity to benefit from early product updates and enhanced training and service support.
CNPDC has already served as an AVEVA Technical Support Service Partner for the
Chinese power industry, as well as providing support services for AVEVA product
users in its region and industry.
Established in May 2005, CNPDC is the first professional nuclear power design
company with complete business scope in China. CNPDC has full certification in
engineering consulting (Class A for nuclear and thermal power, Class C for
hydroelectric power), engineering design (Class A for thermal power generation,
Class A for nuclear reactor engineering, Class B for construction engineering), and
a design licence in mechanical equipment for civil nuclear safety. It has passed
ISO9001:2008 quality management system certification, ISO14001
environmental management system certification, and OHSAS18001 occupational
