2.0 Requirement 2.1 Printing Requirement This section describes the requirements for in-plant printing labels.

Inplant Printing Checklist (for General) 20160229.doc

2.2 Recommendation It is highly recommended that creating a reference sample sheet to indicate what the acceptable label looks like. By referring to the samples, user can easily determine whether the produced label meets the standard requirement. Below is an example with the printer settings and materials used.

3.0 Standard Operation Procedure of IPPS label printing 3.1 Before live PO printing User should clean the print head before printing to make sure there is no residual on the print head. Fail to do will make the residual accumulated on the print head and shorten of print head life. Users should print test PO/labels before printing first live order everyday, to ensure the printer is working properly. From the test label, it could be determined if any adjustment is required such as contrast, printing position and cut position, or there is any issue on the printer, such as print head bad dot, wrinkle of ribbon. Please refer to the 4.0 Common Printing Issue for details. 3.2 Live PO printing Users should check if they are using the desired format and data before printing using the preview function. If there is any problem or users do not know whether they are using the correct formats and data, please contact Avery Dennison software support team, email: [email protected] Print some amount of labels to check printed product quality during printing. Referring to sample book, see whether it is required to do any adjustment and then go ahead for mass production if no problem is found. 3.3 Barcode checking If there is barcode printed on the label, users should use the handle barcode scanner to perform checking the barcode readability. There are two ways to identify if it is readable

1) Using the inline verifier on printer if purchased and enable live verifying function.

Page 7: Avery Dennison RBIS - systems.paxar.com.hksystems.paxar.com.hk/docs/SOP - General IPPS label printing v1.0_EN.pdf · June 2016 | Page 2 Important Users are advised to follow this

June 2016 | Page 7

With the Inline verifier once the barcode cannot be verified or the barcode grading is lower than the requirement, the printer will stop and prompt the verifying barcode error. Stop printing and check the possible reasons of why the barcode cannot be scanned. Refer to 4.0 Common Printing Issue or contact local Avery Dennison for assistance if required.

2) Source an offline handheld scanner / CCD scanner to verify barcode on the printed label

Handheld scanner

CCD scanner connected to PC with notepad

Scanning intervals: EACH BATCH LINE of a PO should be scanned a minimum of 2 times, at the START OF A BATCH (first label printed) and at the END OF A BATCH (last labels printed). If large quantities are to be printed, > 1000, we recommend that a barcode check be carried out every 500 labels. If it is not able to scan the barcode, stop printing and check the possible reasons of why the barcode cannot be scanned. Refer to 4.0 Common Printing Issue or contact local Avery Dennison for assistance if required.

3.4 Daily Maintenance after printing Users are suggested performing daily maintenance after printing Print Head Maintenance after printing. If labels printed with voids or bad dot

found, clean the print head. Replace print head if cleaning does not work. Note: After replace print head, print some test samples before printing, adjust

contrast and pressure if necessary. Cutter Maintenance. Recommend using SAE30 lubricate the blades per week.

Replace cutter if can’t work smoothly or can’t cut totally. Roller Maintenance. Check and clean any dust / residual ink on the rollers

every day before printing. Recommend lubrication on the bearing, the bushing between two rollers per month.

Sensor Maintenance. Dust and paper scrap are bad for sensor performance,

so use dry cotton or swab for cleaning sensor. CAUTION: AVERY DENNISON recommends Master Cleaning Kit # 05921341K for use in cleaning print heads. 1. Before cleaning any part of your AVERY DENNISON printers, turn off the power to the printer. 2. To avoid damaging the print head, wear the anti-static wrist strap (which must be in contact with the skin and be tight). Be sure the button on the strap comes into direct contact with your skin. 3. Fasten the clip end of the anti-static wrist strap to a metal portion of printer (usually the stacker) to prevent static from your skin from entering the print station. 4. Wear anti-static gloves at all times when handling a print head to prevent oils from your hands from contaminating the print head. While wearing the gloves, remove the cotton or Velcro pad from the package. 5. After 2 to 4 hours of continuous use: Apply a liberal amount of alcohol to a cotton pad and rub firmly across the print line of the print head several times to remove any build-up of ink, dust, dirt or debris. Wait a few minutes for the alcohol to evaporate, and resume printing. 6. After 8 hours of use: Apply a liberal amount of alcohol to the loop side of a Velcro pad and rub firmly across the print line of the print head several times to remove any build-up of ink, dust, dirt or debris. Wait a few minutes for the alcohol to evaporate, and resume printing. 7. Clean the print rollers and auxiliary feed rollers with alcohol and a cotton pad to remove any ink, dust or dirt build-up.
