Preventing Toll FraudToll Fraud is the unauthorized use of your telecommunications system by anunauthorized party (for example, a person who is not a corporate employee, agent, subcontractor, or working on your company’s behalf). Be aware thatthere is a risk of toll fraud associated with your system and that, if toll fraudoccurs, it can result in substantial additional charges for your telecommunica-tions services.

Avaya Fraud InterventionIf you suspect that you are being victimized by toll fraud and you need techni-cal assistance or support, call the Technical Service Center’s Toll Fraud Inter-vention Hotline at +1.800.643.2353.

Providing Telecommunications SecurityTelecommunications security of voice, data, and/or video communications isthe prevention of any type of intrusion to, that is, either unauthorized or mali-cious access to or use of, your company’s telecommunications equipment bysome party.

Your company’s “telecommunications equipment” includes both this Avayaproduct and any other voice/data/video equipment that could be accessed viathis Avaya product (that is, “networked equipment”).

An “outside party” is anyone who is not a corporate employee, agent, subcon-tractor, or a person working on your company’s behalf. Whereas, a “maliciousparty” is anyone, including someone who may be otherwise authorized, whoaccesses your telecommunications equipment with either malicious or mis-chievous intent.

Such intrusions may be either to/through synchronous (time-multiplexedand/or circuit-based) or asynchronous (character-, message-, or packet-based)equipment or interfaces for reasons of:

• Utilization (of capabilities special to the accessed equipment)• Theft (such as, of intellectual property, financial assets, or toll-facility

access)• Eavesdropping (privacy invasions to humans)• Mischief (troubling, but apparently innocuous, tampering)• Harm (such as harmful tampering, data loss or alteration, regardless of

motive or intent)Be aware that there could be a risk of unauthorized intrusions associated withyour system and/or its networked equipment. Also realize that, if such an intru-sion should occur, it could result in a variety of losses to your company, includ-ing but not limited to, human/data privacy, intellectual property, materialassets, financial resources, labor costs, and/or legal costs).

Your Responsibility for Your Company’s Telecommunications SecurityThe final responsibility for securing both this system and its networked equip-ment rests with you — an Avaya customer’s system administrator, your tele-communications peers, and your managers. Base the fulfillment of yourresponsibility on acquired knowledge and resources from a variety of sourcesincluding but not limited to:

• Installation documents• System administration documents• Security documents

• Hardware-/software-based security tools• Shared information between you and your peers• Telecommunications security experts

To prevent intrusions to your telecommunications equipment, you and yourpeers should carefully program and configure your:

• Avaya-provided telecommunications systems and their interfaces• Avaya-provided software applications, as well as their underlying hard-

ware/software platforms and interfaces• Any other equipment networked to your Avaya products

20Change Description

What’s in This Chapter?

This chapter lists the issues that are corrected by installing the Avaya™Interchange Release 5.4 Remote Field Update RFU+B (G54rfu+b).Because this Remote Field Update contains all of the enhancementsincluded previously in Avaya Interchange 5.4 Remote Field UpdateRFU+A (G54rfu+a), the issues addressed in RFU+A are included in thelist.

Changes and Issues Addressed in RFU+A(G54rfu+a)

Because G54rfu+b includes G54rfu+b, all of the issues addressed inG54rfu+a are listed here.

Avaya Interchange Release 5.4 complies with the VPIMv2 specification. This RFU includes changes to ensure seamless interoperability withNortel Meridian Mail with Net Gateway 1.1 and the Alcatel 4635 VPIMsystems. With this RFU, Interchange 5.4 has been successfully tested withthe following VPIM systems:

! 3COM NBX 100

! AccessLine Communications

! Alcatel 4635

! MS Exchange Server 2000

! Nortel Business Communications Manager (BCM)

Change Description

4 Issue 1Comcode 700281504

! Nortel CallPilot

! Nortel Meridian Mail with Net Gateway 1.1

! Nortel Norstar Voice Mail (NVM)

In addition to these VPIM changes, the RFU addresses the following twoissues:

System mailboxes being removed from Interchange. Using the“delete subscriber by range” feature, mailboxes 00...00 through0...10 can be deleted from the system. However, these mailboxes arereserved for the system and should not be deleted.

The system will now display an error message to the user stating thatthese mailboxes are reserved and cannot be deleted. This will preventproblems caused by the removal of system mailboxes needed by elists ormessages.

0000000001 Returns messages, such as “full mailbox” or “transmissionerror,” and similar failed message earcons need thismailbox. Without the mailbox the sender will not receivethese failed message earcons.

0000000002 Returns the original message back to the sender.

0000000003 Delivers Elist messages between Interchanges when anelist has the “Reply Enabled” field set to “no.”

0000000004 Delivers Elist messages to endpoints off the Interchangewhen an elist has the “Reply Enabled” field set to “no.”

Administration issues cause Major 3004 alarms. When a duplicateextension was encountered during delta updates, the maintenancelog entries were too vague to know what the problem was.

This problem is fixed by adding an entry in the Administrator Log whenthe error occurs. The entry explains that the problem is caused by aduplicate extension.

Changes and Issues Addressed in RFU+B(G54rfu+b)

Serenade Digital

An issue between Interchange and Serenade Digital causedSerenade Digital remote machines to lock up at times, causing allmessaging activity to cease.

Fixes have been made to recover from such a lockup and allow normalprocessing of messages.

Messages marked with the return receipt option were getting stuckin the Interchange queue.

Fixes have been made to correct this problem.

Audix Digital

The Anet process was stopping and failing to recover.

Fixes have been made to prevent the Anet process from coming down.

Interchange

A process was using up resources without freeing them, causingthe system to get in a bad state.

Fixes have been made to free up resources after they have been used andstop this problem from occurring.

EAG warning message is not returned to sender across multipleInterchanges. Many error messages are not returned to senderacross multiple ICs. Multiple warnings/errors sometimes notreturned to sender if "Send Message for Warning?" set to 'n'.

Fixes have been made to address the EAG-related issues listed above.

VPIM

The vpimc process was core dumping.

Fixes have been made to the vpimc process to prevent it from coredumping.

Change Description

6 Issue 1Comcode 700281504

Interchange 5.4 was not working properly with the Access Linesystem. When a DSN comes back it contains a voice message thatwas getting discarded, thus creating an empty message.

Fixes were made so that the voice part is no longer discarded.

Interchange 5.4 was not working properly with certain VPIM systemswhen duplicate addresses were used. The message would not getsent; instead an empty message would be transmitted and errorswere logged.

Changed VPIM to handle duplicate addresses without any problems.

When sending messages from Octel Analog through theInterchange into an AccessLine voice mail system using VPIM, themessage time is wrong

Made changes to ensure the proper timestamp in the VPIM header.

Alarms

Issues were causing major NW and IC 3004 alarms, which resultedfrom ORA-0001, ORA-0600 and ORA-1458.

Fixes have been made to prevent the alarms.

Elists

Users were allowed to enter system mailboxes 00 through 10 as partof the permissions in the elist definition screen, which are reservedfor the system.

Fixes have been made so that the Enterprise List Definition screen willnot save mailboxes 00 through 10 in the permissions grid. If mailboxes 00through 10 are entered, they will be saved as 11 through 99.

Screens

When changing the number of AMIS nodes on the Feature OptionsForm Update screen, the user saw incorrect messages on thescreen.

Fixes have been made to display the correct messages when changing theAMIS nodes option.
