Abbreviations: K = Knit P = Purl st/sts = Stitch/Stitches St st = Stockinette Stitch RS = Right Side WS = Wrong Side Back: With larger needles and A, cast on 64 (70, 78)sts. Work in St st until piece measures 15 ¼ (16 ¼, 17 ¼)" from beginning. On WS, bind off 19 (21, 25) sts for shoulder, work across 26 (28, 28) sts and place on holder. Bind off remaining 19 (21, 25) sts for shoulder.

Front: With larger needles and A, cast on 64 (70, 78) sts. Work in St st until piece measures 4 ½ (5 ½, 6 ½)" from beginning. On RS with A, work 18 (21, 25) sts. Join B and work 27 sts of chart pattern #1, end 19 (22, 26) sts. Continue in this manner until 45 rows of chart are complete.

Note: (Remember to work 2 rows between MEOW and cat). Continue in A until piece measures 12 ¾ (13 ¾, 14 ¾)" from beginning.

Neck Shaping: On RS, knit 26 (29, 33) sts, join second ball of yarn and bind off center 12 sts; work to end. Work both sides at once, bind off 2 sts twice, and 1 st three times at neck edge. Work even until piece measures 15 ¼ (16 ¼, 17 ¼)" from beginning. Bind off remaining 19 (21, 25) sts for each shoulder.

Sleeves: With larger needles and A, cast on 34 sts. Work in St st for 1 ½" Join B and continue in stripe pattern for entire sleeve. AT SAME TIME: Increase 1 st at each side every 6th row until 58 (62, 66) sts are reached. Work even until piece measures 13 (13 ½, 14)" from beginning. Bind off on WS. Finishing: Block pieces to measurements. Sew left shoulder seam. Neckband: With RS facing, with smaller needles and A, pick up 72 (74, 74) sts along neckline. Work in k1 p1 rib for 1". On RS work in St st for 1". Bind off on RS. Sew second shoulder and neckband seam. Mark 5 ¾ (6 ¼, 6 ¾)" down from shoulder at each armhole edge. Sew top of sleeve at armhole edge between markers. Sew remaining side and sleeve seams.

Tail: With double pointed needles and C, cast on 4 sts. Work i-cord for 7 ½", cut yarn and pull tight through remaining sts. Swirl tail as indicated on picture. With strand of C, tack down underneath tail in a swirl.

Eyes: With strand of B, form French knots as indicated on chart.

Nose:

With strand of C, form French knot as indicated on chart.
