Risk Being Creative…Creating something out of nothing is a tall order and yet every day we put things together in new ways.

Th at new way may not be a world fi rst but just one thing that’s new for ourselves.

No matt er how creative we are though, creation is always from something and new ways are oft en untested for us even though they seem second nature to others. Th e new combinations are risky. Confronting our limitations to see something new is risky.

You might well ask what has this to do with Community College ?

Th e answer is simple enough.

Th is College Program is full of your personal building blocks for creativity. Th ose litt le things like new skills, new ideas and new found competence that are the building blocks of new ways.

Th is College Program is also full of people. Taking risks together is so much easier than taking them alone. Seeing those who have accomplished creative endeavours can be encouraging when shared.

So here is one resolution for the dilemma. Take the risk with others and get the building blocks for your own creativity.

Explore the amazing possibilities of your Digital SLR camera, Film cameras also welcome. Th is course will cover the Manual and Auto sett ings so that you can achieve the type of shots you want from your camera, allowing you to be as creative as you would like to be with your photog-raphy. You will cover everything from taking your shots, editing them and preparing your images for printing. We all have a lot of fun while learning the basic through to some advanced techniques. Learn to sew or build on your existing skills in a class designed for the absolute beginner, those with basic sewing skills or the more advanced sewer. Master sewing basics and how to use your sewing machine, expand your sewing knowledge and skills, fi nish those unfi nished items, have assistance with fi tt ing or just enjoy the opportunity to sew with help at hand if needed. You will sew an item/s of your choice using commercial patt erns and will select a patt ern, alter and layout the patt ern, use cutt ing and construction methods and operate a sewing machine. Th e more experi-enced sewers will be guided through the construction of garments of their own choice and will be encouraged to explore new techniques. Tired of pants that don’t fi t? In this hands-on tissue-fi tt ing workshop you will learn your correct patt ern size and how to alter a commercial pants patt ern to fi t your body. Discover solutions to fi x problems and pick up tips in order to create a fl att ering style. We will be using the Palmer / Pletsch fi tt ing concepts to make alterations to the basic Mc Calls patt erns to give you a patt ern that you can use over and over again. Sewing : Pattern Fit Workshop

Learn how to alter any patt ern to fi t you using hands-on tissue fi tt ing. In this workshop we do very litt le measuring, because measuring does not tell you all you need to know about your body. Discover what size you really are, so that you can start out with the correct patt ern. Focus on making bodice and skirt alterations using Palmer / Pletsch fi tt ing techniques and McCalls patt ern 2718. Once changes are made to the basic patt ern, you will go home with your own personal body map and the ability to alter any fashion pat-tern of your choice. You will be encouraged to tissue fi t and alter additional dress patt erns of your choice. (Additional cost for materials)
