AUTOMATISIERUNG UND DIGITALISIERUNG DER DRILLING RIG TECHNOLOGY
The presentation discusses why automation is such an important factor in drilling rig technol-ogy. It further analyses where risks, NPT and HS&E issues are located in daily drilling activities with breakdown by individual rig component. This is an essential part to define and demon-strate potential solutions related to automation and digitalization. In the presentation, achievements targeted through automation will be pointed out in order to understand the importance of automation integrated in drilling rig technology. At the final part, it will demon-strate in a short video how Herrenknecht Vertical has automated SCADA and PLC processes in an advanced offshore drilling rig operating in the North Sea.

Standardisation.
„Reduction of the complexity of the different
types of drill string components or at least of
the interfaces would tremendously boost the
automation process.“

Automation – Key statement.
“We’re shifting the simple, repetitive tasks of the
human driller in a 12-hour shift to automated
machines by allowing the computer to perform
these functions so the driller can monitor the
operation and do higher-level activities such as
preventive maintenance, crew competency, safety
or planning.”
