CITYMOBIL2
08/02/2016 Automation FOTs and Pilots in Europe 5
• CityMobil2 is setting up a pilot platform for automated road transport systems
– implemented in several urban environments across Europe (e.g. La Rochelle, Oristano, Vantaa, Lausanne).
• Activities: – technical, financial, cultural, and behavioural
aspects are investigated
• Final demonstrators: – Sophia Antipolis (France) – San Sebastian (Spain)
• Duration: Sept.2012 – Aug.2016 La Rochelle (FR)
Lausanne (CH)
• Research work: – Analysing data from the collected
questionnaires to assess user reaction – Analysing recored data from the vehicles to
measure performance – Analysing data from cameras to assess non-
user reactions
Oristano (IT)

COMPANION
08/02/2016 Automation FOTs and Pilots in Europe 6
• Duration: 2013 - Sept 2016 • Main objective:
– develop a framework of co-operative mobility technologies to enable supervised vehicle platooning of heavy-duty vehicles (coordinate driving of heavy-duty vehicles to create, maintain and dissolve platoons by merging vehicles that share subparts of their route)
• The framework uses decision-making mechanisms and accounts for both historical and real-time information.
• Main steps:
– COMPANION has already defined the user, technical and business requirements.
– A first prototype of the integrated system resulted in a first version of the architecture and interfaces
– Currently phase of System integration, Validation, Demonstration

IGAME
08/02/2016 Automation FOTs and Pilots in Europe 7
• Interoperable GCDC (Grand Cooperative Driving Challenge) AutoMation Experience
• Main objective – Speed up real-life implementation and
interoperability of wireless communication based automated driving.
– joint development and demonstration • Main demonstration scenarios:
– Merging on highway – Mixed traffic intersection
Merging on highway scenario

AUTONET 2030
08/02/2016 Automation FOTs and Pilots in Europe 8
• Project duration: November 1, 2013 – October 31, 2016 • AutoNet2030 develops and tests a co-operative
automated driving technology, based on a decentralised decision-making strategy which is enabled by mutual information sharing among nearby vehicles.
• Context: – Convergence between sensor-based vehicle automation
and cooperative V2X communications – Key challenge is to develop the right concepts for mutually
useful convergence of these trends, demonstrate improved cost-efficiency and performance as opposed to pure sensor-based solutions

CARGO-ANTS
08/02/2016 Automation FOTs and Pilots in Europe 9
• Cargo handling by Automated Next generation Transportation Systems for ports and terminals
• Project duration: Sept 2013 – Sept 2016 • Cargo-ANTs aims to create smart Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and
Automated Trucks (ATs) that can co-operate in shared workspaces for efficient and safe freight transportation in main ports and freight terminals.
• Objectives: – performance and throughput of freight transportation in
main ports and freight terminals and maintain a high level of safety
– Develop an automated shared work yard for intelligent AGVs and highly automated trucks
– Develop and demonstrate planning, decision, control and safety strategies for automated vehicles
– Develop and demonstrate an environmental perception system and a grid-independent positioning system.
