• Enables collaboration between CAD and Romax engineers
• Fast, error free data exchange (import and export
functionality)
• Allow faster model development times/more design
iterations
• Provides ideal mechanism for RxD engineers to
communicate issues/design recommendations
• Promotes the use of RxD earlier in the design process
• Allows easy auditing of designs

US OEM – Process for concept layouts
• Concept transmission development team wanted to streamline processes by:
o Speeding up modelling by using CAD FUSION to support the building of Romax models
o Using Dynamic FUSION to generate multibody models for use in driveline dynamic analysis and
plant models for driveline control development in GT-SUITE
o Using resulting transient dynamic loads to re-assess gear and bearing durability
• A joint project with Romax and Gamma Technologies is underway to assess the
methodology and test the new processes
o Phase 1 (completed): Romax and Gamma Technologies demonstrating the methodology on an
existing transmission design
o Phase 2 (in progress): Customer testing methodologies on a new design with support from
Romax and Gamma Technologies

Comet Solutions
• Abstract Engineering Model - define a complete product system by
combining component and subsystem models at virtually any model
fidelity into a single parametric, multidisciplinary and multi-physics
model
• Reusable templates, capturing best practices
• Graphical – no scripting
• Achieved through custom objects – tags,
constructors, environment objects, etc.

Automation Example – Model
• Two-stage gearbox
• Target requirements: packaging,
mass, efficiency
• Variables: Lay shaft position, gear
macro geometry, housing geometry
• Other possible variables – shaft sizing,
bearing positions, etc.
