Smoke extraction motors are mainly used in buildings or building structures, where smoke monitoring and evacuation is required due to the design and layout - for example:

Function of smoke extraction motors
These motors have a twin function:
Normal operation (where there is no fire):– ventilation and / or extraction
Under fault conditions (i.e. when there is a fire):– keep emergency exits and access routes free of smoke– make firefighting easier by creating a smoke-free layer – prevent / delay fire spreading– protect equipment and devices– minimize / reduce the heat stressing of components and
equipment– reduce the damage caused by fire as a result of products from
thermal decomposition and hot gases

Acceptance procedure at the Technical University ofMunich, Dachau office (Hr. Zitzelsberger) in compliance with prEN12101-3 (fr. 02.´99)
The motor series were accepted in accordance with the specifications in the Standard.
The test conditions were especially stringent as the measurements were made with a constant motor load and without fan impeller.
Temperature / time requirements according to prEN12101-3(from 02.99):– 200° Celsius 120 min.– 300° Celsius 60 min.– 400° Celsius 120min.

“Only” the motor is accepted in compliance with prEN12101-3 -this means that suitable fan impellers, from any manufacturercan be used when appropriately dimensioned.
The motor has the connecting leads brought-outat the non-drive end
Radial and axial fans can be driven– radial fan: Self-ventilated motor, 1LA../1LG.. with metal fan– axial fan: Non-ventilated motor, 1PP..
(observe the volume airflow required)
The maximum cantilever forces are almost identical to those for Standard motors as listed in Catalog M11 (observe the permissible load levels at the shaft end)
Operating times under fire/smoke conditions lie significantly above the values specified in the Standard– e.g.: F300 has been certified for 120min instead of 60min
