INTRODUCTION
This is a self - assessment test on the part of the students to access his competency in creativity.
During the course of study, the student is put on a sound theoretical foundation of various mechanical engineering subjects and of course, to a satisfactory extent. Opportunities are made available to him to work on different kinds of machines, so that he is exposed to various kinds of manufacturing process.
As a students learn more and more his hold on production technology becomes stronger. He attains a stage of perfection, when he himself is able to design and fabricate a device. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is one of the subjects that we study which is very useful to complete this project.
This is the project work. That is the testimony for the strenuous training, which the student had in the institute. This assures that he is no more a student, he is an Engineer.
This report discuss the necessity of the project and various aspects of, design, selection of materials, fabrication, mechanism and testing.
SYNOPSIS
It is becoming almost everything automatic in the world. There are so many automatic systems in an automobile vehicle. It is everything about improvement so when we think about what else could be improved. Finally we got the idea of making automatic rain sensing wiper.
We thought it’s a better idea to do this as a project because man had to control and concentrate on many things. If the wiper wipes automatically when rains one of the work of driver is eliminated.
That’s the motto of our project. It could be another helping hand to the driver. We also asked many drivers how they would feel if they had this facility in their car. Many said this would be a great facility to have.
CONSTRUCTION
A windscreen wiper (windshield wiper in North America) is a device used to wipe rainand dirt from a windscreen. Almost all motor vehicles, including trains, aircraft and watercraft, are equipped with windscreen wipers, which are usually a legal requirement.
The wipers combine two mechanical technologies to perform their task:
A combination electric motor and worm gear reduction provides power to the wipers. A neat linkage converts the rotational output of the motor into the back-and-forth
motion of the wipers.
A short cam is attached to the output shaft of the gear reduction. This cam spins around as the wiper motor turns. The cam is connected to a long rod as the cam spins; it moves the rod back and forth.
The long rod is connected to a short rod that actuates the wiper blade on the driver's side. Another long rod transmits the force from the driver-side to the passenger-side wiper blade.
The motor arrangement is fixed in the windshield’s sheet metal locked by nut. The wiper blade is fixed and locked by a nut.
The electrical line from the motor’s one line is connected to the battery and the other end is connected to a relay. A relay is an electrically operated switch. Many relays use an electromagnet to operate a switching mechanism, but other operating principles are also used.
The relay’s other is connected to motor.
Circuit is connected to the Sensing plate the circuit also connected to a 9V battery for the working of circuit. From the circuit, it is connected to relay 12V.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
Rain will be detected through the circuit provided in the driver PCB when drops of water fall on the sensor PCB located in front of the windshield provided in the vehicles.
The sensor PCB should be connected with the driver PCB.
When drops of rain water falls on the sensor PCB the base of T1 is getting connected to the positive supply line.
As the result T1 & T2 are switched on so that the relay R on the wiper motor with the help of 9V battery.
The motor is driven by the 12V battery and drives the link rod through linkage and the shaft rotates.
On this shaft the blade is mounted and locked by a nut.
According to amount of rain pours on the sensing element, the circuit makes the motor to rotate at reasonable speed.
When the amount of rain drop is more the speed of the motor must be in high to wash out the rain completely from the windshield. If the amount of rain is low, less speed is sufficient for the clear vision of driver on the road.
APPLICATIONS
It will be very useful in air craft, marine ships, military, vehicles like cars, Lorries and heavy vehicles etc,
LIMITATIONS
The auto speed increasing of wiper motor not so accurate.
The speed increasing takes more time to reach.
ADVANTAGES
It reduces the switching ON and OFF done by driver.
According to the amount of rain the wiper motor speed is controlled.
Thus it reduces shifting of gears in wiper motor which is usually done by driver.
Usually backlash is a disadvantage in any system. But, Backlash is advantage in this project. It takes 15-20 seconds to cut off wiper motor after rain stops.
Due to this complete removal of water in the windshield is thoroughly cleaned. That makes the clear vision of the road by the driver.
SPARES PARTS DETAILS
The wind shield used in our project is Mahindra Natiz Car’s back windshield.
The wiper blade & motor with linkage is Ford Car’s.
The motor is a double arm motor.
The sensor we used in this project is a rain detector.
It works on the basic principle of electronics.
A 12V relay and 9V battery arrangement is also used.
A 12V battery is used to drive the motor.
FINISHING AND PAINTING
Welding and cutting work is very important for it.
For the motor to be placed we cut the covered sheet metal and cut the holes for the wiper shaft and clamping plate.
The clamping plate is bolted with nut and bolt washer on both sides of the wiper rod end.
The support rod i.e. legs for the standing of the arrangement is welded on the sheet metal.
The arm of the wiper blade is too length so we cut it off and welded it in near. Thus the length of wiper blade is reduced, according to the windshield height.
Painting on the welded and cut parts makes it look good.
Soldering in the circuit and Relay makes it reliable. So, soldering is must for the circuit.
The diagram the SENSOR CIRCUIT is detailed below;

CONCLUSION
We make this project entirely different from other projects. Sincere concepts involved in our project are entirely different that a single unit is used to various purposes, which is not developed by any of other team members.
By doing this project we gained the knowledge of fabrication work and how the welding is done, types of sensors available and material selection for particular components etc.
It is concluded that any fabrication work can be done with the help of welding.
Once again we express our sincere thanks to our staff members.
