DESCRIPTIONThe Automatic Gun Release System is run when it is desirable to drop the gun after firing. This tool is designed to fit onto the top of the gun. A short section of detonating cord runs through the center of the tool below the explosive transfer device. Several Owen Firing Heads can be threaded into the top of this tool for detonation of the gun system. The gun is activated by either; a Mechanical Impact Firing Head, a Safety Impact Firing Head (LP and HP), Pressure Activated Firing Head, Electronic Time Delay Firing Head, or the Dual Fire System for 4.5” TAG gun systems.

Bottom Connection 4.5” TAG1 The maximum temperature can be increased to 400oF (204.4oC) by substituting the 90 durometer Nitrile O-Ring with 90 durometer Viton O-Rings. Refer to theTime vs. Temperature chart for Explosives to confirm any explosives requirements.2 This is the minimum pressure (annulus) required to insure operation.

Note: Do not use the tubular collar No-Go, TC-170-2375-000 or the TC-170-2875-000 when using this Automatic Gun Release. Use the Impact No-Go, TC-010-0022-110 which attaches directly to a drop bar firing impact body and fall away with the guns when released, leaving no restriction.

Warning: The assembly of this tool requires the handling of an Explosive Device and all safety precautions must be adhered to and observed! Only personnel trained in explosive handling procedures should be allowed to arm this assembly

Note: Check all items against the parts list to be sure of having the correct parts and quantities.

Note: Check for any damage to the parts which would prevent the part from being assembled correctly, easily and safely.

1.0 Assembly

1.1 Install the O-Ring (item #10) onto the Locking Piston (item #2). Apply grease to the O-Ring, outer surface and inner bore of the Locking Piston. Apply a light coat of grease to the inner bore of the Upper Housing w/ Tabs (item #1), then insert the Locking Piston into the Upper Housing w/ Tabs until the it bottoms out.



1.2 Install O-Rings (item #10) on the Collet Sub (item #3). Apply grease to the fingers of the collet surface and the O-Rings, then insert into the Upper Housing w/ tabs. With the Collet Sub properly seated, slide the Locking Piston downward until it bottoms out, locking the collet fingers in place. The distance from the top edge of the Locking Piston to the top edge of the Upper Housing w/ Tabs should be 5.5”(13.97 cm).

Note: When installing the Collet Sub (item #3) make sure to align the tabs on the Upper Housing w/ Tabs (item #1) and the slots on the Collet Sub.

1.3 Slide the Retainer Ring (item #4) over the shaft of the Center Stem (item #5) until the threaded holes in the ring are aligned with the holes in the stem. Thread in both Brass Screws (item #7), to secure the Retainer Ring in position. Do this step before installing the O-Rings onto the center stem. Install O-Rings (item #8 and #9) on the Center Stem.



1.4 Apply grease to the O-Rings (item #8 and #9) and threads on the Center Stem (item #5). Insert and thread the Center Stem into the assembled AGR Upper Housing w/ Tabs (item #1). The bottom of the stem thread should be flush with the inside bottom of the Collet Sub (item #3). Install O-Rings (item #11) onto pin connection of Upper Housing w/ Tabs.

Note: For Assembly TC-050-4500-000 you will need to use a 1” wrench or socket drive to thread the Center Stem into the Upper Housing w/ Tabs.

Note: For Assembly TC-050-4500-100 you can use a small pipe wrench or strap wrench to install the Center Stem.

1.5 For assembly TC-050-4500-000 cut a piece of Detonating Cord (80 gr.) (item B) to a length of 14.19” (36.03 cm). For assembly TC-050-4500-100 cut a piece of Detonating Cord (80 gr.) to a length of 12” (30.48 cm). Crimp a Bi-Directional (item A) booster to one end. Slide the Detonating Cord through the Booster Support Tub (item #6) until the booster is flush with the top of the tube. Crimp the tube to the Detonating Cord. Crimp a second Bi-Directional booster to the other end of the detonating cord.



1.6 Insert the Detonating Cord Assembly into the Center Stem (item #5) of the Auto-Gun Release assembly until the tube is fully seated in the Center Stem.



1.7 The Auto-Gun Release is now complete and ready for the Owen Firing Head assembly. (for example, a PAFH for TC-050-4500-100 and the Dual Fire System for TC-050-4500-000)

Warning: When inserting the Percussion Detonator or Firing Head mechanism, the assembled Auto-Gun Release must not be attached to a perforating gun assembly!
