Each manufacturer has its own processes, own tacking system, order

processing and its own challenges. IT departments have taken advantage of

hardware improvements to economically store the increased data, however

there never seems to be enough time or resources to meet the needs of

factory managers who face the “fact gap” that exists between the data and the

usable information required to make real business decisions.

The other challenges that manufacturing industry face is due to changes in

demand. If managers have a proper understanding of costs and demand, they

can make better decisions.

Challenges with Manufacturing Industries:

Finding the Best Partners

Identifying the ideal supplier isn’t just a matter of price or geography. It’s equally important to know if a supplier is growing, is financially sound, has done business in a particular region before or has experience within your market. Manufacturers can develop analytics models to visualize the characteristics of existing suppliers.

Procurement Challenges

Included challenges due to High cost price, Scarcity of raw material, Limited quality suppliers, Transportation. Most of the firm face high cost for procurement of raw material because the demand is high and supply is inefficient. 19% is scarcity of raw material and 18 % account for transportation challenge. The prime concern in India is to find quality suppliers/ vendors who understand technology and have good skilled workers.

Technical Challenges

The most prominent technical challenge in industry is lack of R&D department as it will cost a lot for these financially non stable small firms and reduce the net profit. Improper testing tool which results in return of bad goods to customer. Lack of handling equipment Lack of air pollution control equipment, Power related issue comes under this category.

Supply Chain Challenges

Inventory management, Material handling, Customer demand and Transportations are some of the example of this category. Firm are not able to fulfil customer demand on time because of problem faced for procurement of raw material on time in right quantity and small percentage of bad goods.

Inventory Challenges

Demand variability, extended response time, Lack of visibility of supply chain, Lack of collaboration between partners, Quality level and reliability of service from suppliers are some of the challenges in this category. 25% of issue arise due to quality level of product/raw material and reliability of service from supplier, sometimes raw material is not delivered on time so the process which depend on the is waiting state , this piled up unfinished inventory.

Challenges from Competitors

Different competitors use different strategy to beat the competition. Better quality product, Low price product, Better logistics, Better inventory management are some of the challenges faced by the firm. The price war is one more challenge for each of the competitors as market so big and there is too much option for customer, so they try to play on the price war.

Supplier Relationship

The prime challenges faced from supplier end are procuring the quality material, on time

delivery as per requirement. By monitoring the available data throughout the term of any

supplier contract or agreement, your team can proactively avoid problems. Setting up alerts

and triggers can alert you of developments at supplier factories, within the overall industry

or with other aspects of the supply chain, so you can be prepared for any red flags that may

arise.

Redefine Manufacturing Process with Data Analytics/Visualization

Manufacturing companies want the ability to bring in data from multiple locations and still be able

to see a unified macro view of the entire enterprise. BI helps achieve this goal-providing a quick

snapshot of business and enabling to drill down into sales and purchasing trends, as well as perform

budget analysis.

Automate Manufacturing Process with StarBI

Starcom’s Enterprise Business Intelligence tool is a Self Service business intelligence software allows

you to Discover Trends, Track KPIs and Visualize data. Connect to multiple data sources, create and

schedule reports, set alerts and run predictive analytics with our drag and drop GUI. As a Self

Service BI Software, StarBI empowers business users by turning data into actionable insights and

enable organizations to improve on decision making.

Quick KPI’s: Whether analyzing business performance vs. another company or between divisions

within a company, quick access to key performance indicators enables to see how business is

measuring up at any moment in time. It has the capability to compare financial models and actual

performance vs. budget and forecast numbers for different time periods. In addition, it enables to

quickly establish benchmarking of results vs. competitors over varying time periods. One can export

any KPI report or model to Excel or Word.

Report Automation In order to stay ahead of the competition, organizations can’t afford to sit back and wait for their IT or accounting departments to provide the information they need to make informed decisions. They must be proactive in automating their entire reporting process–from the creation to generation to distribution of reports across the entire enterprise. Armed with streamlined, high-volume reporting,

these companies are equipped to respond to ever-changing market conditions and make the best possible decisions that impact the health of their business.

Graphical Presentations of data

Viewing data in graphical format makes the process of analyzing performance so much quicker and

easier. BI solution incorporates customizable graphical views (chart) of the data in grid, pivot table,

and interactive chart formats. This should be standard feature, not an accessory.

Inventory optimization

Manufacturing companies have huge inventories to track and move. It’s essential for manufacturers

to monitor their inventories to reduce over-capacity and ensure sufficient supplies. BI allows

manufacturing companies to track inventory usage across location and time, monitor inventory costs

and profits through multiple layers of information, and identify inventory overage or obsolete or

slow moving inventory. In addition, users can set up alerts for instant notification of low inventory

levels.

Supply Chain and Order Management BI can help deliver deep customer insight into order and inventory data to make better decisions in each stage of the order lifecycle. BI enables assess inventory levels, determine likely product fulfilment needs before the order has been booked, quickly identify potential order backlog issues, and stay on top of critical accounts receivable (A/R) and daily sales outstanding (DSO) issues. By leveraging actionable and fact-based insights, one can transform current Supply Chain and Order Management processes to improve financial performance and customer satisfaction. Alerts Critical alerts and reporting of quality metrics in real time provide crucial monitoring, proactive notification, and automation capabilities that help manufacturers adapt to changing conditions and avoid alarming scenarios pertaining to payables, receivables, budgets, sales, and inventory. With alerts functionality in place, they can pre-set a wide variety of benchmarks in all of these areas and protect from missing key time- or date-sensitive events or failing to respond to deviations from acceptable levels enabling intelligent decision making and action
