• When unveiled, the cover was peeled away from the back forward and the collective gasps from the world's press said it all. AThe Tyrrell P34 was one of the most radical entries ever to succeed in Formula One (F1) competition, and has specifically been called the most recognizable design in the history of world motorsports

• The car used specially manufactured 10-inch-diameter (250 mm) wheels and tyres at the front, with ordinary-sized wheels at the back. The design reduced the lift, improving frontal downforce, increased the total contact patch of the front tyres and created a greater swept area for the brake discs.

• It first ran in the Spanish GP in 1976, and proved to be very competitive. • Such a car has never been seen in F1 ever since as the rules were re

ammended in 1983 to prevent such cars from entereing.• What was so unique about this car?

Q4

• The Trabant is a car that was produced by former auto maker VEB. The main selling points were that it had room for four adults and luggage in a compact, light and durable shell; it was fast (when introduced); and it was durable.

• With its poor performance, outdated and inefficient two-stroke engine (which returned poor fuel economy for the car's size and produced smoky exhaust), and production shortages, the Trabant is often cited as an example of the disadvantages of centralized planning.

• It was in production without any significant changes for nearly 30 years, with 3,096,099 Trabants produced in total.

• In the West, much has been written about the Trabant, mostly negative: to comedic effect, emphasis was placed on the shortcomings of the Trabant, rather than its good points, such as that it was simple to operate and easily repaired.

• In which country was the Trabant manufactured?

• The famous Turn 8 and 8A combination at Laguna Seca CA, popularly referred to as the X, is considered one of the motorsport world's most challenging turns, due to the drop in elevation as well as its blind crest and apex on the uphill approach.

• At the apex to Turn 8 (the lefthander and entry to X), the elevation change is a 12 percent drop. By the time a race car reaches the apex of Turn 8A (the righthander), the elevation is at its steepest an 18 percent drop. X drops 59 feet between the entrance of Turn 8 to the exit of Turn 8A, the equivalent of a 5½ story drop, in only 450 feet of track length. From Turn 8 to Turn 9, the elevation falls 109 feet, or just over 10 stories.

• In publication since 1900, interrupted only by the 2 world wars, this guide is the supposed to be the last word in restaurant ratings.

• The publishers have gone to extraordinary lengths to maintain the anonymity of its inspectors.

• Many of the company's top executives have never met an inspector; inspectors themselves are advised not to disclose their line of work.

• In all the years that it has been putting out the guide, it has refused to allow its inspectors to speak to journalists.

• The inspectors write reports that are distilled, in annual "stars meetings" at the guide's various national offices, into the ranking of three stars, two stars, or one star—or no stars. (Establishments that they deem unworthy of a visit are not included in the guide.)
