Community Beer Company is a brewery located in the Design District that focuses on charitable giving in the community. While at Community, he has won the gold medal for his Public Ale at GABF in 2013. They also just released a brand new Russian Imperial Stout, in which they held an open naming contest. FireWheel Brewing Company EST 2010

Lifetime Dallas native, Brad Perkinson, decided to get in the brewing business after realizing that an office job was not the right fit for him. He got hooked on great beer after a trip to Munich, Germany for Oktoberfest in 2009 with some friends. Ever since then, he is striving to find better options than the usual American macro-lagers. His brews range from the typical American Pale Ale to the more adventurous Strawberry IPA.

Four Corners Brewing Company EST 2012

Four Corners is nestled in the booming area of Trinity Groves across the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge. Head brewer, John Sims, has worked in several Dallas area breweries before working at Four Corners. He had originally started at Yegua Creek Brewing in 1993 and Copper Tank in in 1995, well before the most recent craft beer boom in Dallas. The founding members of Four Corners got their s tar t homebrewing and decided to t a k e t h e p l u n g e a f t e r participating in one of the first Brew Riot Festivals in their native Oak Cliff, back when the festival consisted of a few teams in the parking lot behind Eno’s Pizza.

Grapevine Craft Brewery’s Sir William’s English Brown Ale was recently named the #1 Beer in Dallas for 2013 by D Magazine (though this didn’t come without controversy). This beer boasts of nutty aromas and coffee notes. The brewery is off to a fast start. After only being open 6 months, they were already heavily expanded into the Austin market. They will be starting on their new brewery (actually in Grapevine) in September this year, and are halting operations until they are finished building, which is expected by February 2015. Their old brewery in Farmers Branch will be sold to 3 Nations Brewing, which will start production later this year.

Lakewood Brewing Company EST 2012

Lakewood Brewing started off as another group of homebrewers making beer out of their garage in the Lakewood neighborhood of Dallas. Now they’ve realized their dream and operate a full production brewery in Garland. While not in the namesake neighborhood of Lakewood, they opened their doors in Garland due to the unfavorable laws inside Dallas city limits at the time of their opening. Their biggest success so far in the DFW beer scene is the Temptress Imperial Milk Stout along with its multiple variants.

Peticolas Brewing Company EST. 2011

Owner/brewmaster, Michael Peticolas, originally contributed to the burgeoning DFW brew scene by helping to get the zoning laws changed in Dallas to allow breweries to be built within Industrial zones within city limits. He then quickly decided to start his own brewery. He struck gold almost immediately with the 2012 and 2013 Best Beer of Dallas, in Velvet Hammer and a 2012 Great American Beer Festival gold medal for Royal Scandal. His initial small scale approach to the industry is working as he saturates the DFW market before expanding to other markets. You can only find his beers in DFW, with the exception of a few kegs that have been sent down to Austin.

Martin House Brewing EST 2013

Martin House Brewing Company is one of the more adventurous breweries in the metroplex. Even their launch beers were not the traditional styles normally seen from a brewery, which included a four-grain breakfast style beer and an amped up 9% Red Double IPA. Recently at the Untapped Festival in Ft. Worth, they brought a beer so complex, it does not really fit into any style at all, combining flavors of oak, smoke, and raspberry, all on top of a strong IPA base. They also cater to the local homebrewing scene by host ing local competitions, as seen in this year’s Riverside Shootout. The winner of the competition gets their beer made on a large scale and sold in the area (won by the Other Baldwin Brothers).

They wanted the new name to reflect the history of Fort Worth, which was nicknamed Panther City after a panther had been sleeping in the main square by the courthouse back in 1875. Still working on getting into the full swing of business, they are currently getting their name out there by participating in local beer events. Most recently, the Fort Worth Food + Wine Festival, where they won Best Brewer at the Burgers, Blues, and Brews event.

Though all the way North of the metroplex in Sherman, it is fairly easy to find their beer in the city. Since the release of their inaugural beers, 903 has also expanded into several other traditional beer styles. Also check out the 903 Brewery for a whole range of events including trivia, movie nights, and of course, brewery tours.

Armadillo Ale Works EST 2011

Armadillo Ale Works started with a 3rd place finish in the 2010 Venture Creation Contest though the University of North Texas’ business school. From there, they became Denton’s only craft brewery. While gathering capital, they originally started selling prohibition-style sodas, as they are less regulated in Texas compared to their alcoholic brethren. With contract brewing help from Deep Ellum Brewing Company in 2012, they now sell their beer in 150 retailers throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and Houston. After finding success with canned year round beers, they have began to venture into more non-traditional styles and bottling them in 22-oz. bombers.

Out near Cedar Creek Lake Southeast of the metroplex, Cedar Creek Brewery is pumping out award winning brews. After being open only one year, they took home a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival for their Cedar Creek Dubbel in 2013. The brewery is very committed to the local area in and around the Greater Cedar Creek Lake area. They hire local employees, help local businesses and charities, use local ingredients where they can, and reduce their carbon footprint by using easily recyclable cans, and even distribute in plastic reusable kegs. While they may be located in small town, they are making a very big impact on the DFW beer scene.

Head brewer/owner, Dennis Wehrmann, grew up in Bavaria and comes from a long line of brewers in Germany. After attaining multiple degrees from brewing school in Germany, he decided to move to the U.S. with his wife, to start a brewery. His beers are made in the traditional German styles and he maintains a very green and environmental friendly practice in the process. He even follows the Ger man p ur i ty law (Reinheitsgebot) which only allows him to use the four primary ingredients of beer: malted barley, water, yeast, and hops.

Rabbit Hole Brewing EST 2013

After a successful Kickstarter campaign to put on the final touches to their beergarden, Rabbit Hole Brewing finally got off the ground brewing beer out in Justin. Reaching from their home West of Fort Worth, all the way over to Dallas, Rabbit Hole sticks to more traditional beer styles. Like a lot of recent startup breweries in DFW, head brewer and part owner/founder, Matt Moriss, started out as a homebrewer and also became a certified BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) beer judge, before completing a course in Brewing Technology from the renowned beer school, the Seibel Institute World Brewing Academy in Chicago.

Craft beer drinkers and non-craft beer drinkers alike have enjoyed their iconic easy-drinking beer. Though not as popular as their primary beer, Revolver has also created other stellar year round beers and a handful of seasonal offerings as well. Their Saturday brewery tours are a nice vacation from the hustle and bustle of the city, as you can enjoy good craft beer out in country.
