Great job kids! Congratulations to their teacher!

A later article in the Sacramento Bee profiled Rohan Shelke, a student at Mira Loma High School. Rohan started the Quiz Bowl team at Mira Loma after crediting his experience at Churchill Middle School for his skills and desire to compete. Mira Loma was headed to the nationals in the High School division. Way to go Bruce!

Bruce says the kids are excited about being on Good Day Sacramento on

The Quiz Bowl teams from Winston Churchill Middle School recently competed in the Middle School National Championship Tournament against 175 other teams from across the United States. In the end, their trip to Chicago on the weekend of May 10 was successful, as their two teams placed second and 13th overall in the competition. Churchill students composed two different Quiz Bowl teams to compete at both local and national competitions-- the A and B teams. Much to the surprise of both team members and advisor, Bruce Hansen, the teams continued to progress in the competition, even further than they had in the past. Hansen describes the final day of the competition as intense and exciting. The A team competed at their very best and brought the competition down to the final question. After a long, hard-fought battle, the students earned second place against a middle school team from New York City. The B team took the final day of competition head-on and played extremely well. For the fourth consecutive year, the team finished the tournament in 13th place out of all 175 teams and exceeded everyone’s expectations. “The competition was intense,” said Hansen. “Our students demonstrated great composure while performing at such a high level.” All of Churchill’s Quiz Bowl team members are excited about their victories in Chicago and are already gearing up for next year’s competitions-- where they hope to take it to the next level. A Team: Soumya Bukkapatnam (Captain) - Eighth Grade Shohom Chakraborty - Eighth Grade Elyas Nuh - Seventh Grade Aditya Sivakumar - Eighth Grade

B Team: Tanay Bodducherla - Sixth Grade Ananya Bukkapatnam (Captain) - Eighth Grade Nipun Dour - Eighth Grade Arjun Gonuguntla - Eighth Grade

On Wednesday, May 8th we celebrated the end of Wednesday church and dinners for the year. Kathy had coordinated and/or cooked dinners for most of 30 weeks . . . A great effort of love and we appreciated it!

All enjoyed a full ham dinner and Kathy even made Beth’s favorite “stained glass” Jello.

You’ll have to ask Kathy for the recipe!

Nancy King was also there to encourage

all to sign up for VBS! This will be a fun time with Nancy in charge! Look for sign up forms in the Narthex—we need adults to sign up, too—don’t want to run out of food at dinners! Thank you, Nancy for stepping up!

Vickie Singleton was also

reminding the ladies to look for old mascara brushes! Her box is getting full . . . We need more to fill it and then she’ll mail it! Thank you for supporting the Wildlife Rescue effort.

On May 18th we held a “Spring Luncheon” and instead of celebrating Mother’s Day we focused on being the church in community via our Lutheran Office of Public Policy.

Due to a mix-up on the date our speaker didn’t make it, so Pastor Gabi filled in with a very helpful talk on who, what, where and how our ELCA engages in the political process. Thank you, Pastor Gabi!

See Pastor’s article in the newsletter on our Lobby Day at the State Capital.

Thank you to Pat Johnson, President of WELCA for a great day!
