Written statement/policy WAAIA-YALCA SOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM FRAMEWORK POLICY The goals of Waaia-Yalca South Primary school as defined in the current Strategic Plan are to: improve the learning growth of every student in literacy and numeracy establish a challenging and stimulating environment that strengthens student confidence in themselves as successful learners enhance student wellbeing in an inclusive, orderly, safe and stimulating environment build an informed school community where staff, students, parents and carers are engaged in the learning process. Waaia-Yalca South Primary School provides a comprehensive curriculum with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. Curriculum initiatives include the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop Literacy program and the Respectful Relationships resilience and welfare program. In addition to the comprehensive classroom programs offered in literacy and numeracy, an integrated classroom curriculum program addresses the curriculum areas of Science, Humanities/History, Technologies/Design Technology, Civics and Citizenship, and Health/Physical Education. Teaching and learning by the principal and classroom teacher across all levels of the curriculum, ensures scope and sequence and curriculum coverage is monitored across the school. This teaching and learning team is currently responsible for core curriculum development and delivery in literacy, numeracy and integrated studies including history, design technology, sustainability and digital technologies. Specialist programs from Foundation to Year 6 are delivered in part for Physical Education through the Sporting Schools program, Visual and the Performing Arts, Language (Japanese), as well as the MACC and MARC programs. Supportive curriculum initiatives and programs include Literacy (the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop models). The goals of Waaia-Yalca South Primary school as defined in the current Strategic Plan are to:

Waaia-Yalca South Primary School provides a comprehensive curriculum with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. Curriculum initiatives include the Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop Literacy program and the Respectful Relationships resilience and welfare program. In addition to the comprehensive classroom programs offered in literacy and numeracy, an integrated classroom curriculum program addresses the curriculum areas of Science, Humanities/History, Technologies/Design Technology, Civics and Citizenship, and Health/Physical Education. These curriculum areas are also cross referenced with the literacy program to ensure sufficient time is allocated to address the content. The team engages in a high level of professional development relating to building teacher capacity with the intention to further build practice in excellence in teaching and learning.

The school has developed a structured approach to curriculum planning that ensures a shared vision within the school on curriculum development, common documentation and common understanding of the whole-school curriculum for the teachers The data analysed regularly by teachers in their curriculum planning includes a suite of year level assessments including NAPLAN and an analysis of school performance data including student, staff and parent surveys.
