Austrian Food Weeks:
Austrian goodies hit Australian households
The interest in obtaining “a taste
of Austria” is growing worldwide,
and an ever increasing number
of consumers around the globe
are appreciating fine Austrian food and beverages. With an ex-
port rate of 60%, the Austrian agricultural and food industry has
become a key driver of the country's outstanding economic performance.
In addition to the leading role played by fine cheeses, preserves and fruit juices,
supplies to the international markets include confectionery, pastries and other
sweet delicacies.
In order to support this trend, we will be hosting Austrian Food Weeks from 20
February to 18 March 2012 for the very first time in Sydney. The overall aim of the
event is to promote leading Austrian brands as well as Austrian products as a
whole, increase the awareness of the average Australian customer and strengthen
the ties between Harris Farm Markets and Austrian suppliers. During the four
weekends the HFM Food Crew team will hold samplings and demonstrations at the
ten highest traffic stores across Sydney. In addition to those demos, Harris Farm
will promote the featured products on their facebook page and in their
e-Newsletters.
Working with a strong and motivated team, we are looking forward to a successful
event and hope to see you around one of the stores endulging in some of the fine
produce Austria has to offer.
HEI Solar Light:
Solar LED lighting systems

Presenting Austrian Companies
Solar street lighting
HEI was established in Vienna in 2007 and has
quickly gained European acknowledgement
winning the National Design Prizes in 2009 and
2010 for its ground breaking solar light design.
Radius Technology discovered the potential for
Australia in 2009. Since then Radius Technol-
ogy has been selling and installing its products
Australia wide and has created a lot of interest
and success in this ground breaking technology
from Austria.
The idea of solar lighting is not a new one but HEI has managed to take a con-
ventional idea and completely redesign it with a truly architecturally inspired
outcome that makes existing flat panel technology look ugly and out-dated. HEI
has patented a way to bend the normal solar cell without breaking it and insert
this into a glass tube, which allows for very high efficiencies from a device
which can accept irradiation on a 360 degree scale.
Together with state-of-the-art LED and a HEI designed
microprocessor control, the overall package is at the
forefront of the solar lighting technology. For more infor-
mation please visit http://www.radiustech.com.au
An entirely new kind of aircraft propulsion system
The „Enfant terrible“ of aviation design
Meinhard Schweiger from AMX Automation Technologies GmbH was awarded
the Austrian State Prize for Engineer Consulting for a new type of aircraft – like
a hovercraft – propulsion system which has the potential to become aviation's
first technological revolution since the jet engine. Neither fixed wing nor rotor
craft, the D-Dalus uses four mechanically-linked, contra-rotating, cylindrical
turbines for its propulsion.
It can launch vertically, hover perfectly still, move in any direction, and thrust
upwards, thereby "gluing down" on landing platforms, which it can easily do on
the deck of a ship or a moving truck. It is nearly silent, can enter buildings, stay
stable in the air and fly forward faster and with higher efficiency than helicop-
ters. D-Dalus is designed to work as a drone for sea- and land-based uses, like
search and rescue, disaster monitoring and surveillance. Eventually, larger
models could be used for passenger flights.
The company has been working on a prototype for three years and has re-
cently completed initial testing using a 120 bhp KTM engine to drive the tur-
bines. For further details please visit http://start.d-dalus.at

Dincel Construction System:
Revolutionary Australian construction system
assisted by Austrian companies
Turkish born Australian inventor Burak Dincel has
developed a new building (structural) concrete-
polymer matrix system which enables load bearing
walls and columns to be constructed at lowest cost,
in less time and with lower skill demand than by
traditional masonry or concrete walling systems.
The Dincel Construction System needs 80-90 %
less steel, 40-50% less cement, and features uni-
que earthquake resistance – up to 9 on the Richter
scale. It is based on an internationally patented,
lightweight, hollow profile form, manufactured from
a durable rigid, fire-retardany polymer system,
which when filled with ready mixed concrete, produ-
ces a load bearing, fire resistant, & structural ele-
ment. The forms are easily connected by hand via
patented, „snap together‟ joints and can be utilised for walls of any length at the
rate of three forms per linear metre.
Burak Dincel was actively supported by Chemson Pacific Pty Ltd, a subsidiary
of the Austrian Chemison Group, which has developed unique non-toxic (lead
free) PVC additives. Additionally Dincel trusts in leading manufacturing techno-
logy from Austria and produces his Dincel Construction System on Battenfeld
plastic extrusion machines.
Dincel is in the process of moving the existing operation to a new “green-field”
site which will enable a doubling of the existing capacity by end 2012. The new
site is located at Erskine Park (Western Sydney).
Weissenseer:
The world‘s first floating and rotating passive house
Having specialised in low energy consuming structures first and more recently
in buildings contructed according to rigorous passive house standards,
Weissenseer Holz-System-Bau GmbH has become one of the leading passive
house construction companies in Austria and Europe. The primary goal of CEO
Christof Müller and his team is to create sustainable, energy-efficient, environ-
mentally-friendly but still affordable living and working spaces.
One of their most innovative and ground-breaking projects is the world‟s first
floating and rotating passive house which was built on lake Weissensee in
Carinthia, Austria. All energy production, water supply and sanitation is con-
fined to the space within and on the
surface of the actual building. The
glass fronts have a decisive impact as
the building can be turned towards or
away from the sun in order to create a
comfortable indoor climate without the
use of excessive energy. This project
has earned Weissenseer a lot of rec-
ognition both among experts and pro-
fessionals, as well as with potential
investors even in Australia. Floating house on lake Weissensee

STEYR Motors -
Monoblock diesel engine unbeatable in Thales Hawkei light armoured vehicles
Against strong international competit ion, Thales Australia
(www.thalesgroup.com) has been chosen to provide its Hawkei light armoured
vehicles to the Australian Army. The total cost of the project is estimated at
$1.5 billion. The new ground-breaking design will protect the vehicle and up to
six soldiers from blasting and ballistic missiles and allow easy conversion be-
tween variants.
The vehicle is named after a stealthy species of death adder Acanthophis
Hawkei, a native of Australia.
The Hawkei weighs approximately 7,000kg and is developed as a next-
generation light mobility vehicle. Thanks to its very economic Monoblock
STEYR MOTORS V6 diesel engine which is manufactured by STEYR MO-
TORS GmbH in Austria, it can travel at a maximum speed of 100km/h over a
range of more than 1,000km. STEYR MOTORS General Manager Rob McIn-
tyre is proud of this achievement after having introduced STEYR MOTORS
engines as a reliable power plant for many ships in Australia and New Zealand.
The Australian Defence force is seeking to
acquire up to 1,300 Hawkei light protected
vehicles. According to Thales the company
will also pursue its export potential. Pro-
duction is expected to start in 2016 in
Bendigo, Victoria.
