With Accenture’s help, Australia’s military operates with an aircraft maintenance management system that effectively supports the Australian Defence Force both in Australia and in forward areas of operation. Client background The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is responsible for the maintenance and deployment of more than 500 aircraft across all three services—the Royal Australian Air Force, Army and Navy. Technologically sophisticated, the ADF maintains a force of 51,000 full-time active-duty personnel and 19,000 reservists. Business challenge The ADF knew it could improve operations and reduce costs by replacing its outdated Computer-Aided Maintenance Management program with a new and improved system that would help it maintain mission critical aircraft systems without compromising safety. ADF needed a trusted third party to help bring to life its proposed new system, a Computer- Aided Maintenance Management system called CAMM2. With Accenture’s help, Australia’s military operates with an aircraft maintenance management system that effectively supports the Australian Defence Force both in Australia and in forward areas of operation.

Client backgroundThe Australian Defence Force (ADF) is responsible for the maintenance and deployment of more than 500 aircraft across all three services—the Royal Australian Air Force, Army and Navy. Technologically sophisticated, the ADF maintains a force of 51,000 full-time active-duty personnel and 19,000 reservists.

Business challengeThe ADF knew it could improve operations and reduce costs by replacing its outdated Computer-Aided Maintenance Management program with a new and improved system that would help it maintain mission critical aircraft systems without compromising safety. ADF needed a trusted third party to help bring to life its proposed new system, a Computer-Aided Maintenance Management system called

CAMM2. Accenture was selected because of its solid experience working on large-scale projects for military clients and because of its reputation for building pragmatic technology solutions.

How Accenture helpedA complex Defence information technology project, development of CAMM2 required close collaboration between Accenture and the ADF. Accenture was responsible for design and implementation of the system as well as acquisition and configuration of third-party products used in the system. Accenture also created training both to support the rollout and for continuing operations. Even today, Accenture continues to provide system support, including responding to user support requests, system maintenance and development of software releases, including some system enhancements.

A core requirement of the CAMM2 system was to support deployed aviation operations. The system provides a man portable standalone system specifically designed to meet the requirements of deployment to forward areas of operation.

With Accenture's help, Australia's Defence Force now has a maintenance management system that improves the efficiency and effectiveness of aircraft operations.

High performance deliveredWhen it was successfully rolled out to the Air Force, Army and Navy in 2006, the CAMM2 system provided the Australian Defence Force aviation with an advanced and effective tool for managing maintenance in a way that meets ADF aviation logistics and maintenance requirements. The new system also helps reduce the need for any paperwork in relation to aircraft maintenance management. Automated support tools also allow a user with limited training to operate, maintain and upgrade the system while on deployment.

With Accenture's help, Australia's Defence Force now has a maintenance management system that improves the efficiency and effectiveness of aircraft operations—making the Air Force, Army and Navy better prepared to meet Australia’s many and varied Defence missions.
