AUSTRALIAN ARMY UNIT HISTORIES

The books in this catalogue are from the private library of The Hon. David Levine AO RFD QC—a dedicated and passionate bibliophile for more than half a century.

In a lecture delivered at the State Library of New South Wales in 2011, David declared that

. . . My principal areas of interest have been the humanities and the inhumanities. The former embraces literature, history, the arts including bibliography and press books, the law and the classics and naturally, baseball. The latter embodies military history, war as a persistent human enterprise, . .

This is the first of a series of catalogues devoted to David’s collection of military histories. It will be followed by catalogues of regimental histories of the British army, the Franco-Prussian and Russo-Japanese wars, and one of the finest private collections of military treatises published in England and Europe before 1641.

Most of the items bear David's bookplate or militaria book label, usually affixed to the upper pastedown or upper free endpaper.
