Heart of theTexas Hill CountryThe Edwards Plateau is a vast area of uplifted and elevated land in western Central Texas. The Texas Hill Country makes up the eastern half of the Plateau and is highlighted by tall rugged hills of limestone and granite. The area is also known for the numerous caverns and aquifers which source the plentiful spring-fed rivers and creeks. Additionally, the Colorado River runs through this region allowing for the creation of the Highland Lakes chain of lakes … Lakes Buchanan, LBJ, Marble Falls, Inks, Travis, Austin and finally Lady Bird Lake which graces downtown Austin.
The Texas Hill Country boasts a long history of inhabitants dating back some 13,500 years. In fact, newly discovered archeological evidence suggests that the first Native Texan was actually the first native North American. Early residents include Coahuiltecan, Kiowa, Comanche, Apache, Kickapoo, Caddo, and Tigua Indians, along with the much later Republic of Texas sent settlers of German heritage. The area is now famous for its unique fusion of Spanish and German influences in food, beer, architecture, and music that form a distinctively “Texan” culture. For example, the accordion was popularized in Tejano music in the 19th century due to cultural exposure to German settlers.

Preservation Ranch displays acres of improved pastures where equine residents graze heartily on native grasses and plants. Sweeping along hilltops around the stables are five pastures gracefully defined by handsome wood horse fencing.
