Heart of theTexas Hill CountryThe Edwards Plateau is a vast area of uplifted and elevated land in western Central Texas. The Texas Hill Country makes up the eastern half of the Plateau and is highlighted by tall rugged hills of limestone and granite. The area is also known for the numerous caverns and aquifers which source the plentiful spring-fed rivers and creeks. Early residents include Coahuiltecan, Kiowa, Comanche, Apache, Kickapoo, Caddo, and Tigua Indians, along with the much later Republic of Texas sent settlers of German heritage.
