Welcome back to Auspicious It Ain’t! As you may or may not recall after all this time, this is a Nickel & Dimed Challenge starring Ygraine Rossi and her children Genevive and Beaudelaire. The goal is to keep them functional on the very lowest of incomes and most restricted of skills until such time as Beaudelaire becomes an Adult. It’s a pass/fail challenge, and I am currently passing. Let’s see, what else…? (Recaps are not my strong suit.) Beaudelaire was engaged as a small child to the granddaughter of Ygraine’s friend Old Adam Shankel,* and Genevive has dreams of rising above their current station. I think that’s it.

Ygraine had two days out of the three-day rotation off from work, which she tried to use to join the neighborhood ladies’ association.

YGRAINE: I could help with providing refreshments for the meetings!

SOCIALITE LADY IN PINK: Um, well, we wouldn’t want to put you to any trouble…

YGRAINE: Oh no, no trouble! I’m a plain cook, no caviar or anything, but I’m happy to contribute.

ROSE SHANKEL, THE PREGNANT LADY: urp

Because I have Free Time now, I did not bother to redownload the custom sewing machine that I used to have, especially since I could not allow the family to use it. $1,000 per hour of use is too much, but an hour on a potholder for a $10 profit (if I was allowed to sell the potholder, which I’m not) seems quite fair.

Genevive dutifully made a potholder when instructed, but seemed less than enthused about it.

Beaudelaire, on the other hand, took to it like a duck to water. His One True Hobby is apparently Arts & Crafts, and he had a fantastic time making that potholder.

It was not a very good rotation for Genevive, who had a bad chance card at work and lost her job. This also throws off my plans for the future, but of course it’s much worse for the family.

And Genevive’s misfortunes were far from over. She Grew Up that very night into an outfit that, well…

BEAUDELAIRE: Nice dress, sis. It really goes with your hair.

GENEVIVE: Shut up, twerp.

BEAUDELAIRE: Are you planning to wear that to interviews?

GENEVIVE: Are you planning to eat dinner tonight? Because if you are, I’d rethink my position on my outfit.

BEAUDELAIRE: It looks terrific – you should wear pink more often.

Now that Genevive is an Adult, she needs her own room. I’ve been building this room with any spare funds for the past three or four rotations. I’d originally intended it for a half bathroom, but a bed fits – just – and I decided this was a better fit. It’s decorated mostly with postcards Genevive bought in the background on community lots while I was playing someone else.

Since Genevive has her own room, logic dictates that Beaudelaire must have his own room as well, which is in fact the case. He also has a computer now – an old, slow, cheap one with no internet connection, because connectivity costs money, but he can now type his papers for school instead of writing them out by hand.

Naturally, Genevive and Ygraine also use the computer for typing things up. They can’t afford to have a fancy machine like that for just one person.

Genevive decided that a new look was in order, and did her best with the materials available to her.

I do allow hairstyle changes under my “house rules,” but not buying new clothes. Fortunately, this outfit was in her Outerwear category, and also works for Everyday.

And then she sat right down to find a new job. Genevive doesn’t stay down for long.

I apologize for the small number of pictures this time around. This challenge has few pictures anyway, and I had one whole play session where I thought Fraps was on, only to find out afterwards that it wasn’t. Now I take pictures with both cameras – in-game and Fraps – for insurance.

Until next time, Happy Simming!
