Our History

In 1956 decision made to prohibit active duty personnel from holding policy-making positions. AUSA became a totally private association

– Increasingly apparent in political area that uniformed leadership could not address adequately the issues.

– Need to avoid perception that uniformed leaders, through i t i ti b ti b f C d i i f th ia private association, were combating before Congress on decisions of their

political leaders.
