Course Description and Learning Outcomes English for Business Communication Fundamentals Upper Intermediate Course Description and Goals The English Language Institute’s (ELI) Upper Intermediate English for Business Communication gives learners tools to both improve their knowledge of the business world and to help learners apply current knowledge in using workplace communication. While students explore such areas as finance, marketing, and human resources, they are exposed to relevant vocabulary and grammatical structures through business articles and texts taken from popular business periodicals. This gives their students real-world context and better enables learners to apply their new skills and knowledge immediately. Learning Outcomes Students will be able to use the following business language skills in English: 1. Build working relationships 2. Set goals and accomplish them on a deadline. 3. Incorporate creative strategies for team building. 4. Ask the appropriate questions to collect the needed information. 5. Lead a briefing and delegate tasks 6. Be able to begin a variety of discussions and affectively tell a story. 7. Negotiate and/or come to an agreement. 8. Effectively work with and lead coworkers and be culturally sensitive. 9. Learn how to approach cohorts or various professional statuses. 10. Assess with others how to solve a problem and effectively execute a plan. 11. Make an effective presentation 12. Handle conflicts while being culturally sensitive 13. How to persuade and influence others 14. How to motivate others and be encouraging 15. Report past events
