Auguste Rodin
Artist Spotlight On…
Auguste Rodin
November 12, 1840 – November 17, 1917
A French sculptor who is widely accepted
as the father of modern sculpture.
Rodin began to draw when he was
10 years old. When he was 13 he
went to art school to become an
artist.
His sculptures were unique and he
was considered a radical at the time.
Classical sculpture was
smooth and clean.
Rodin took a different approach, giving
the sculpture more dimension and
making it more realistic.
He sculpted in clay and then had bronze sculptures made from his original art.
