They are tied for 1st place with the Charleston RiverDogs, but the GreenJackets own the tiebreaker as they went 5-2 vs Charleston in the 1st-half. Charleston has had sole possesion of 1st place since May 8th. The GreenJackets were tied for 1st place with the RiverDogs on May 6th, If the GreenJackets can win the 1st Half Championship it will be their first title since they won the 2nd Half of the season in 2013. TODAY’S PITCHING MATCHUP: Corry vs Riley Seth Corry will start the series opener vs Rome at SRP Park. Corry is ranked as the #25 overall prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization according to MLB.com, and he has shown the ability to rack up the strikeouts this year. He is 2nd on the team with 69 strikeouts on the season. Corry’s last start came on Friday, June 7th, but he went just two innings as the game was suspended due to rain. He allowed one run in that outing. Corry was a 3rd round selection by the Giants in 2017 out of Lone Peak High School in Highland, Utah. The 5th round selection in 2018 by the Atlanta Braves will take the mound in the series opener. Trey Riley will make his 12th start of the season, and his 1st of the year against the GreenJackets. Riley’s last start on June 7th came against the Lexington Legends, and he allowed six runs over four innings. Riley this season has 35 strikeouts and has walked 28 batters. Hitters have a .312 average against him. Corry, Tona, Munguia named to All-Star Game GreenJackets starting pitcher Seth Corry will make an All-Star Game appearance after an incredible start in 2019. He is currently 5th in the SAL in strikeouts with 65, an incredible statistic considering he has thrown only 43.1 innings on the mound this year. Corry, who is ranked as the #25 overall prospect in the Giants organization according to MLB.com, has an ERA of 2.49 this year. Jesus Tona has made the All-Star Game roster as he has been one of the most dominant relievers in the South Atlantic League. Tona’s eight saves are the 3rd most in the SAL, and he has a 1.61 ERA over 28 innings-pitched. Tona was named an All-Star in 2018 when he pitched in the Northwest League for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Short-Season Affiliate of the Giants). After he signed with the Giants as a catcher in 2014, Tona made the move to the mound in 2017. He has a career ERA of 1.30 and 20 saves in 62.1 innings on the hill. Ismael Munguia is the only position player on the GreenJackets roster to make the All-Star Game. Munguia’s season got off to a great start when he had a 15-game hitting streak from April 18th to May 8th. After going 4-4 with an RBI for the Jackets last week (Monday, June 3rd), he is now hitting .292 on the season. Munguia has hit in the leadoff spot 40 times this year and his K% of 11.3% is the 2nd best among hitters in the SAL. GREENJACKET TO WATCH: Mikey Edie - OF After Mikey Edie sat out the previous two days, the right-hander delivered his first home run of the season yesterday since July 8th, 2018 when he was in the Northwest League. Edie’s two RBI’s were crucial to help the Jackets sweep Lexington.

  • #21 Carlos Valderrama - MANAGERValderrama begins his 2nd stint at the helm of the GreenJackets as he returns after spending last year as a Manager in the Arizona League. In 2017, Valderrama led the ship for Augusta as the GreenJackets played their final season at Lake Olm-stead. The previous three seasons he managed in the Dominican Summer League. This year will mark his 12th season as a coach in the organization, as the former Giants outfielder served as a hitting coach for the summer team for six seasons prior to being Manager.

    The Venezuelan native was originally signed by San Francisco as a non-drafted free agent in 1995, playing 11 seasons with the organization through 2005. He saw action in seven Major League contests in 2003, going 1-for-7. He finished his play-ing career in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system, playing at the double-A level in 2006. Valderrama resides in Bachaquero, Zulia, Venezuela. Fondest memory of his time in Major League Baseball was playing next to idol growing up Barry Bonds.

    “I grew up being a Barry Bonds fan. I was in Oakland and I look to my right and there he was right next to me. That was the most exciting thing in my career, to play with a guy I followed.”

    #39 CLAY RAPADA - PITCHING COACHClay Rapada begins his 4th season as the GreenJackets Pitching Coach. Rapada spent parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues with the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees and the Cleve-land Indians. 2019 will be his 4th season in the Giants organization. Under Rapa-da’s tutelage in 2018, two pitchers, John Gavin and Joey Marciano, were chosen for the 2018 All-Star Game.

    In Rapada’s seven major league seasons, he went 8-0 with a 4.06 ERA over 93 innings-pitched. Rapada logged two innings of postseason experience. In 2010 he pitched 0.1 innings for the Texas Rangers in the playoffs without allowing a run. In 2012 he threw in both the ALDS and ALCS for the Yankees and did not allow a run in 1.2 innings-pitched. He finished his baseball career by competing in the 2016 World Baseball Classic for Team USA in Sydney, Australia. Overall in the minor leagues, Rapada went 34-27 with a 2.96 ERA in 497 games.

Fox graduated from the University of Michigan earning All-American Honors in his final season as a Wolver-ine. He was selected in the 3rd Round of the 2003 MLB Amateur Draft by the Chicago Cubs on July 19, 2007. He played in 7 different Major League organizations and, also, played in the big leagues with the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles. In addition, Jake extended his experience with 6 seasons in the Dominican winter league, 2 seasons in the Mexican winter league, 1 season in the Mexican summer league, 2 seasons in the Atlantic League and 1 season in Korea.

    Since finishing his 15-year playing career, Jake has expanded his coaching experience as a hitting coach with the Philadelphia Phillies organiation, a hitting coach with CaOeros de Los Mochis and an assistant coach with Chicago State University. 2019 will be his 2nd year in the San Francisco Giants organization after spending last season with the Short-Season Class ‘A’ Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.

Rome-ro spent 19 seasons as a player from 1993-2012 with stints in the Dodgers (1993-98), Diamondbacks (2001) and Orioles (2003) systems, in addition to 13 years in the Mexican League.

    Romero, who reached the Triple-A level, hit 172 home runs over the course of his minor league career. Prior to joining the Giants organization this year, Romero served as a manag-er and coach in the Mexican League.
