One of the most difficult things I ever had to do when my children were little was to leave them with a babysitter when they heart-wrenchingly cried with arms outstretched begging me to not leave them. Uggg! I remember some of my strategies for making it through this: I would try to reason with them that I would be back soon; I would try to bribe them and tell them I was going to bring a surprise back when I returned; probably the one I would get the worst mother of the yearaward for was when I would try to sneak out avoiding the whole thing all together because, well, it was easier on me. Goodbyes can be very difficult. The very reason goodbyes are hard is the reason we actually need to do them well: because were leaving something, and if we dont fully leave it, we cant be fully present in the next thing. As we look to the days that we will be saying goodbyeto Intern Pastor Lisa, we need to remember that God has some pretty amazing next thingsin store for both her and us. So, lets say goodbyewell. Here are some great ways to do that: DONT RUSH YOUR GOODBYES. Over the course of this next month, take some time to visit with Intern Pastor Lisa and share your appreciation with her. CHOOSE A PROPER PLACE AND TIME FOR YOUR GOODBYES. Dont wait to say bye when you dont have time to say it. Find a good time and place to be fully present. DONT BE EMBARRASSED THAT YOURE SAD. Give yourself permission to be sad for a while. The very nature of a pastoral internship is that there is a beginning and an ending. I think it always surprises people how very much they come to love their intern pastor. Lisa is definitely loved at Faith. As we begin saying our goodbyes to Lisa, remember that God has some pretty amazing next thingsin store for both her and us. So, Pastor Lisa, may this month of goodbyesbless you. One of the most difficult things I ever had to do when my children were little was to leave them with a babysitter when they heart-wrenchingly cried with arms outstretched begging me to not leave them. Uggg! I remember some of my strategies for making it through this: I would try to reason with them that I would be back soon; I would try to bribe them and tell them I was going to bring a surprise back when I returned; probably the one I would get the ‘worst mother of the year’ award for was when I would try to sneak out avoiding the whole thing all together because, well, it was easier on me. Goodbyes can be very difficult. The very reason goodbyes are hard is the reason we actually need to do them well: because we’re leaving something, and if we don’t fully leave it, we can’t be fully present in the next thing. As we look to the days that we will be saying ‘goodbye’ to Intern Pastor Lisa, we need to remember that God has some pretty amazing ‘next things’ in store for both her and us. So, let’s say ‘goodbye’ well. Here are some great ways to do that: DON’T RUSH YOUR GOODBYES. Over the course of this next month, take some time to visit with Intern Pastor Lisa and share your appreciation with her. CHOOSE A PROPER PLACE AND TIME FOR YOUR GOODBYES. Don’t wait to say bye when you don’t have time to say it. Find a good time and place to be fully present. DON’T BE EMBARRASSED THAT YOU’RE SAD. Give yourself permission to be sad for a while. The very nature of a pastoral internship is that there is a beginning and an ending. I think it always surprises people how very much they come to love their intern pastor. Lisa is definitely loved at Faith. As we begin saying our goodbyes to Lisa, remember that God has some pretty amazing ‘next things’ in store for both her and us. So, Pastor Lisa, may this month of ‘goodbyes’ bless you.

Quilters with a Cause at Faith Lutheran

Our quilters can often be found busy at work creating beautiful wall-hangings, quilts and

more. Well, they need your help with a new project. Charleen Louks has brought to our

attention a need for drain bag aprons for breast cancer surgery patients. She has Joined

the Journey and would like us, as a congregation, to join as well. On Friday, August 17 and Saturday,

August 18 from 9-11 am, we will gather at church to assemble and cut kits for the drain bags. We need many

hands to complete this project. We need sewers and non-sewers to reach our goal. Please mark your calendar

and join us. For more information about the drain aprons, contact Charleen Louks: 507-257-2158. Stay

tuned for future ministry projects with our “Quilters with a Cause” in the months ahead. The quilters are

finding ways to do God’s work in the world with a little help from all the hands here at Faith.
