The Walk to Emmaus is named so because the experi-ence is very similar to the Bi-ble story in Luke 24:13-34 in which the risen Christ joins the two disciples who were walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus. By walking with Jesus, reflecting on the scriptures, breaking bread to-gether, and sharing their resur-rection stories, the disciples experienced Christ’s presence and their hearts burned within them. The Walk to Emmaus is your opportunity to walk with the Lord and rediscover God’s burning presence in your life.

The aim of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge and equip local Church members for Christian action in their homes, church-

es, places of work, and communities.

The Walk to Emmaus is a wonderful opportunity to grow in your faith. You can find more information at www.dakotaswalk.org or you can contact the church office and we can answer any questions that you might have. The “Pilgrim’s Request for Participation” forms is available online at the same website above (under “Forms”).

VBS was a BLAST!!! It was so much fun to cook with the kitchen crew, to hear all the excitement and energy from the younger participants

throughout the evening, and to engage in some wonderful conversations with the middle school youth. I am already looking forward to next

year!! In mid-August we will begin out third summer sermon series! On Sunday mornings I will also tie into the small group study from the Circle

Maker book that is being offered as a summer Sunday school class. In the series we will study several pillars of the faith, will seek to learn from

their example, and will seek to become pillars ourselves. I hope you can join us each Sunday for both the sermon series and for the study.

The fall will bring the return of several small groups and a new one or two. The ladies groups, young moms, the book club, the noon Bible study,

MYF, confirmation, and many other gatherings will resume in September. New to the selection of ways to deepen your faith and to engage in

learning and growth will be an 8-week grief small group class using the resource Beyond the Broken Heart. This class

will meet once a week for about two months and will be open to anyone from our church or local area. We will re-

turn to our fall schedule starting on September 8th!!

In closing, I’d like to share a few pictures from our family trip to Switzerland. In all, 17 from Kristin’s family were able

to be together in Switzerland. I very much appreciate the church supporting the Sabbath and family time. As we

continue to wind down summer, may the Lord continue to guide and bless you and your family! - Pastor John

Scripture Study for August 2019 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Questions to ponder and go deep with:

1) When have you cried out to God recently?

2) How do you remain patient when the waiting feels long?

3) What area of life do you need to experience God’s justice?

Pastor John’s Jabberings

Scripture to read and consider:

“Will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him

day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? 8 I tell you, he

will quickly grant justice to them”. — Luke 18:7-8
