Respect Life “The causes that lead to such painful decisions as abortion are of course many and complex. If, on the one hand, faithful to her Lord's commandment, the Church never tires of reaffirming that the sacred value of every human being's life originates in the Creator's plan, on the other hand, she encourages the promotion of every initiative in support of women and families in order to create the favorable conditions in which to welcome life, and the protection of the family institution founded on the marriage between a man and a woman. Not only has permitting recourse to the termination of pregnancy not solved the problems that afflict many women and a fair number of families, but it has also made another wound in our society, unfortunately, already burdened by deep suffering” (Address of Pope Benedict XVI to Italy’s Pro-life Movement, May 12, 2008).

The office will be closed on Monday, September 1, due to Labor Day.

From the Pastor’s Desk…. Dear Parishioners, It is almost one year since we started the To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign in our parish, to get the necessary funds for the renovation of our church, especially the roof, the floor, and the lights. In September we will do a follow-up presenting to you a detailed report on the Campaign from the Archdiocese and giving opportunity to make a pledge to those who have not made a commitment yet. There will also be a chance for those who fulfilled their commitments already to make an additional pledge for the renovation of our church for the next two years of the campaign. We are working on the estimate for removing the deteriorating existing tiled flooring and installing the new hard floor. Thank you for supporting our church and the renovation project through your prayers and generous offerings.

Dear Parishioners and Visitors of St. Francis Borgia Church, St. Francis Borgia School is Preschool to Grade 8, and is a continually growing parish. We are proud of our important contributions to the community and our tradition of faithful service. With over 60 years of proven academic success, our school is committed to giving our students the best education possible. St. Francis Borgia School will continue to be a vibrant pillar of academic excellence on the northwest side of Chicago in the years to come. Last year, St. Francis Borgia School hosted its Third Annual Fall Festival with much success. We are expanding this event with the hope that this will become our main fundraiser. The goal of this event is to raise much-needed funds to support our academic program, improve the technology used by teachers and students daily, as well as to build neighborhood relationships. We are so excited this year to hold our Fourth Annual Fall Festival. This year’s event will be held on Thursday, September 18; Friday, September 19; Saturday, September 20; and Sunday, September 21. With nearly 250 children enrolled in the school and the use of great marketing, we expect to have over 2,000+ people attend this fun event each day. Now in our Fourth year, we are looking to make this year’s Fall Festival better than ever, and we need your help to make that happen. I am writing to ask for your generosity and help to achieve our fundraising goals. We are looking for donation of various items to manage the food concessions for the event to include: paper products, foam coffee cups, cans of soda, hot dog and hamburger buns, bottled water, polish sausage, Italian sausage, brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, and much more. The Fall Festival staff can come to you and pick up the donations, or you can come to St. Francis Borgia to drop off the donations. If you cannot donate physical food product items, a monetary donation would also be useful to our fundraising goals and to purchase items not able to be donated. If you are interested in supporting St. Francis Borgia’s Fall Festival through any donation, please return the enclosed form by September 2nd, 2014 to ensure having your business listed in our marketing materials and/or banners. St. Francis Borgia School is a qualified tax-exempt organization, and you will receive a post-event tax letter for your purposes. Thank you for considering this request. If you have any questions or would like additional information about the Fall Festival or our school, please contact Chair of the event. Sincerely, Fran Puleo 773-865-7520 2014 Fall Festival Chair [email protected]

ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO

Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago

Medical Update August 22, 2014

Doctors at Loyola University Medical Center continue to treat Cardinal Francis George. The Cardinal recently underwent a regular medical procedure there to replace a stent in his ureter. This procedure has been done routinely every six months over the last few years.

Additionally, Cardinal George has agreed to participate in a clinical research trial at University of Chicago Medicine. The trial is testing a new drug, which may work by activating cells of the immune system enabling them to attack cancer cells. This approach differs from that of traditional chemotherapy, which uses drugs designed to be toxic to cancer cells. A preliminary trial of this new drug has shown promising results for patients who have the same type of cancer as Cardinal George. The current study seeks to confirm these results in a larger number of patients.

The Cardinal is continuing to maintain his regular schedule.

Since the Cardinal is just beginning this new treatment we have limited information at this time. We will continue to share information about his medical status.

The Cardinal is grateful to those who are praying for him and requests that everyone continue to remember him in their thoughts and prayers.

Z Biurka Ks. Proboszcza… Rok temu rozpoczeliśmy w naszej parafii kampanie Uczyć Kim Jest Chrystus aby zdobyć konieczne środki na renowacje naszego kościoła, szczególnie dachu, podłogi i oświetlenia. We wrześniu powrócimy do tematu naszej kampanii przedstawiając Wam dokładnie ostatni raport z Archdiecezji ukazujący w liczbach dotychczasowy dochód.
