TRANSCRIPT
The Covid-19 virus has caused many changes in the way we live, work and relate. It also has caused us to see what is really important in life. My missions friend, Dan McNerney, wrote in his June Newsletter about “Dealing with Less” during the pandemic. In this he wrote about the importance of generosity during this time.
FROM THE FRONTIER JOURNAL— MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Generosity is a chief characteristic of the Christian life. When God fills our own souls with peace, joy and rest, we hopefully begin to accumulate and consume less entertainment from the world designed to assuage our boredom and deceivingly keep us preoccupied, happy and satisfied. Because we feel loved, forgiven and accepted by God, we hopefully begin to turn our minds from self-worry and preoccupation to the wellbeing of our neighbors and
needs of those we know who might be suffering.
We are reminded of the blessing of being used by God to bring peace, joy and rest
into other's lives, not just our own. God is love and we become more loving the closer
we draw to him. If we are stingy and insensitive people, we are distancing
ourselves from God and grieving the gift of the Holy Spirit he has given us.
After Jesus ascended into heaven, he sent his Holy spirit to earth to live among those who were repenting and becoming his disciples. The Holy
spirit’s presence and power helped give birth to the first Christian communities, now known as the Church. Love and generosity overflowed among the believers enjoying Christian fellowship for the first time. As they worshipped Christ together with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit within them, they became more generous people, sensitive to the needs of

those less fortunate around them. The second chapter of the book of Acts relates the following; “All the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared
the money with those in need. They worshipped together at the Temple each day,
met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and
generosity—all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the
people.” (Acts 2:44-47a)
In order to remind us about the virtues of generosity, the Apostle Paul wrote these most insightful words: “ I have never coveted anyone’s silver or gold or fine clothes. You know that these hands of mine have worked to
supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me.
And I have been a constant example of how you can help those
in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It
is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
(Acts 20:33-35)
May increased generosity be one of the things all of us as Christians learn during the pandemic. It has been wonderful to be back in worship together ! I have enjoyed seeing you all once again! Let us all pray for a vaccine soon so we can be together without masks and have others who can’t join us at this time be able to do so.
Blessings, Pastor Kevin

15th Anniversary Annual Jessica and
Lynsey Memorial Ride 2020
In life, Jessica Lyons and Lynsey Schildmeier were best friends. And
though both their lives were ended early in violence, their legacy has raised more than $265,000 for local charities and
scholarships in the form of a yearly memorial motorcycle ride.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year a Celebration Cook-Out will be held at the Moose Lodge from 11 AM to 6 PM in place of the motorcycle ride. There
will only be a celebration cook-out this year. The event is free, but donations will be accepted at the Moose! All proceeds will be donated to the Madison County
Community Foundation for their scholarship program.
The 15th annual Jessica and Lynsey Memorial Cook-Out will be held on Saturday, Aug. 8th. 100 Percent of the proceeds benefit scholarships in their memory and are
available through the Madison County Community Foundation.
Over $265,000 has been raised for local charities and scholarships from past rides.
NO COST FOR THE FOOD THIS YEAR— T-SHIRTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR $20
Lynsey was the daughter of Mike Schildmeier, our Maintenance Engineer. Please make checks
payable to Memorial Ride if you’d like to contribute.

SUBMITTED BY PAM WARNER
A while back I read a story of a visiting pastor who attended a men’s breakfast in the middle of a rural farming area of the
country.
The group had asked an older farmer, decked out in bib overalls, to say grace for the morning breakfast.
"Lord, I hate buttermilk, "the farmer began. The visiting pastor opened one eye to glance at the farmer and wonder where this was going.
The farmer loudly proclaimed, "Lord, I hate lard." Now the pastor was growing concerned.
Without missing a beat, the farmer continued, "And Lord, you know I don't much care for raw white flour."
The pastor once again opened an eye to glance around the room and saw that he wasn't the only one to feel uncomfortable.
Then the farmer added, "But Lord, when you mix them all together and bake them, I do love warm fresh biscuits.
So Lord, when things come up that we don't like, when life gets hard, when we don't understand what you're saying to us, help us to just relax and wait until you are done mixing. It will probably be even better than biscuits. Amen.”
Within that prayer there is great wisdom for all when it comes to complicated situations like we are experiencing in the world today. Stay strong, my friends, because our Lord is mixing several things that we don't really care for, but something even better is going to come when God is done with it.

Jack Eflin’s daughters, Julie Witte and Jennifer Isenbarger, recently held an online auction of their father’s condo contents.
They were kind enough to donate four wheelchairs to the church, one lightweight/travel and two traditional, a walker and a cane. The church also has another walker and three shower seats.
First Presbyterian is happy to loan these out to any members who need them! Give Julie in the office a call if you could utilize any of these items.
WE HAVE WHEELCHAIRS/WALKERS/SHOWER SEATS FOR LOAN!
Jack and Boots Eflin’s daughters also donated a beautiful print in memory of Jack. It is hanging in the main hallway.
Thank you, Julie and Jennifer, for remembering First Presbyterian in this manner!
