Dear 3ABN Family,

Walking along the water’s edge, I could see the limbs of a large tree sticking up out of the water. From a distance, it looked as though the tree had fallen into the pond during a recent storm. However, as I got closer, I was aston-ished to realize that the big tree had not fallen. There were large wood chips all around the base of the 18-inch trunk. Incredible, I thought. It had been felled by a beaver!

That tree was not a little thing; it was very large, with an enormous top. I didn’t know a beaver could cut down a tree that size. It must have taken quite a while to do it. After all, the job was done one bite at a time (or should I say, one wood chip at a time). The lesson I learned from that beaver was clear: It did not get overwhelmed. It stuck diligently to its task until it was complete.

The commission Jesus gave in Matthew 28 instructs us to spread the gospel to every nation, baptizing and teaching them in all the things He commanded. The job may seem overwhelming, but we need not get wearied or worried; Christ just asks us to just do our part—and He will do the rest. As Danny Shelton often says, “God asks us, ‘What do you have in your hand?’ Then we ask Him, ‘Lord, what would You have me to do?’”

The beaver wasn’t intimidated by the task, it just kept chipping and gnawing away at the tree. Our job is to never become weary in well-doing, but to keep focused on Christ—our Leader, our Provider, our Sustainer, our Savior, our Redeemer. He asks us to partner with Him.

I believe 3ABN is a powerful tool in God’s hands to reach souls for His kingdom. Thank you for partnering with God and 3ABN to reach the world.

It has been an amazing year for 3ABN Latino Network; and as they celebrate 17

years of ministry, we praise the Lord that the best is yet to come! Dramatic changes this year have taught us that we must rely on the Lord even more closely for guidance and direction—and that regardless of the diffi-culties, evangelism must be our top priority.

“Last year was amazing,” says 3ABN Latino general manager, John Dinzey. “We held a huge campaign in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, and around 40 volunteers (in photo above) traveled from other parts of the world at their own expense to preach the gospel for a week!

“Pastor Gerardo Bautista, president of the Central Dominican Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, took on the huge challenge of involving the 183 churches in Metro Santo Domingo (with a population of 3.3 million people) in this evangelistic effort. He recruited theology students and others to preach, and was enthusiastic in his support of 3ABN Latino. Every day we produced a video report that was broadcast

on 3ABN Latino, keeping our viewers informed of the latest blessings and prayer needs of the campaign.

“Our volunteers were very excited to join us, too; and this year, we even had a lady from Australia preaching because someone from Ecuador invited her! It felt like a family worship each morning, and we definitely sensed a spirit of unity.

“The second week was also a blessing as we brought in three well-known 3ABN Latino speakers who preached to large audiences in different venues. In one place, the crowds reached up to 5,000, and many people said they heard the speaker they needed to hear, each night. We praise the Lord that we were able to record and broadcast one of the campaigns, increasing the impact of this evangelistic effort. We entitled it, A New Beginning, and as we watched the baptisms, all we could say was, ‘The Lord has done it again!’”

AdjustmentsJohn says that he wonders what the

Lord has in store for this year. “Even

will not return to normal for long before something else happens. We will get breaks, since the Bible compares them to birth pains, but we need to use those breaks to spread the good news quickly. Our world will get more desperate, and I believe we must be ready with new ways to minister.”

Moving ForwardThe Lord has expanded 3ABN Latino’s

coverage during the pandemic. “Two new affiliates are now airing 3ABN Latino Radio programming, and two new cable systems in Ecuador and another one in Peru have added our TV programming!” John says. “Also, the After COVID-19:What’s Next? booklet is now available in Spanish, and folks are ordering cases of them to give out to the public, since zip code mailings are not always possible in their countries.

“Truly, the Lord is blessing; and although we never imagined we’d still be here 17 years after 3ABN Latino began, I’m happy to say that we’re moving forward with God’s blessing!”

though we’ve made plans to go to Mexico, the COVID-19 situation still raises many questions,” he says. “Will we be able to have church meetings? Will they have to be scaled down? What about our volunteers, will they still be able to come? Right now, several months before this magazine is printed, we just don’t know what opportu-nities we will have for evangelism by then. But the Lord knows, so we will adapt and move forward.

“As the pandemic began, we immedi-ately adjusted to the needs of our viewers. We created a daily program called, Fe y Esperanza (Faith and Hope), and we brought on guests via Skype to minister. Doctors shared information on the virus, and nutritionists gave information on how to keep immune systems strong. Other experts addressed the financial difficulties caused by the loss of jobs. Marriage coun-selors shared godly advice on how to get along when forced to stay at home, and a Christian psychologist addressed both the fears of possibly infecting a family member and how to deal with the grief of losing a loved one without being able to say good-bye. We heard from viewers who watched the information on COVID-19 in Puerto Rico, then stayed for spiritual food. Praise God, they’re still watching 3ABN Latino!

They began working for a self-support-ing ministry and traveled to India, Thailand and Ecuador on mission trips. Later, they volunteered at a Christian TV station in Bolivia before moving to Panama, where they planned to raise their family. “We were happy there around my family,” Luis says, “and then the Lord opened the doors for us to attend Faith Camp last year in Tennessee. Afterwards, Jon and Natalie Wood invited me to come with them to 3ABN, since they were recording an interview; and while we were there, Dee Hilderbrand suggested I fill out an application. I live in Panama, I thought. I don’t need to be applying here. But, as God would have it, I soon was being interviewed by Greg and Jill Morikone! Later, Dayana was, too, and now I work at 3ABN in the studios, in graphics, and even directing, while Dayana is a producer.

“We struggled to tell our family we were leaving Panama, but everyone we spoke with agreed that God was calling us to 3ABN, and that we should go. So we sold everything, got on a plane, and now we’re here, working for the Lord. We believe He prepared us for this, and we’re happy to be working for Him because this is where He wants us to be.”

We are so grateful for Luis and Dayana. The Lord has chosen them to work with us, and we praise Him for this wonderful addition to our 3ABN family!

A CALL TOGod calls us to 3ABN from all over the

world after carefully preparing us for ministry; and Luis and Dayana Jaen’s testimony just proves this, again!

Born in Panama but raised in Venezuela, Luis says that his brother’s marvelous trans-formation after attending a Seventh-day Adventist school helped him and several of his siblings become Adventists. But when he was 25, his family moved to New York City, and he began working in the restaurant business.

Dayana was born in Ecuador and raised in Catholic schools. But when she was seven, her father moved to the United States, and a year later, her mother did, too. “My little brother and I lived with my grandmother for several years, and it was really hard when we found out that our parents were getting divorced,” she says. “But later, Mom sent for us, and we moved to New York City to be with her.”

Searching for AnswersAs the year 2000 approached, Dayana

was frightened by the dire Y2K (Year 2000)

predictions that computer chips designed to only count up to the last second of December 31 would fail in the first minutes of the New Year. Would everything crash? Would airplanes fall out of the sky?

“I read ancient Mayan prophecies and the predictions of Nostradamus, but noth-ing made sense,” she says. “However, God knew I was searching, and one day some-one handed me a flier for a Bible prophecy seminar. The series was being televised, but Mom and I couldn’t understand much because we’d never really read the Bible; so after a few nights, we stopped going.”

Well, the Y2K disaster never happened, and Dayana studied TV production in college. Meanwhile, Luis had drifted away from church and began hanging out with friends at dance clubs—and that’s when he first saw Dayana. “She was beautiful!” he says. “But for some reason I didn’t talk to her, even though I wasn’t shy.”

Dayana laughs. “Well, I saw Luis, too, but I was busy watching out for my friend, who was getting drunk. Later, though, he pulled up to our car in the parking lot,

asked for my number, and a month later, we started dating.”

As they spent time together, they would sometimes disagree about things. “My cousin had died, and yet my aunt said she could sometimes feel his presence in the room,” Dayana says. “But Luis would say, ‘No, that’s not your cousin,’ and we’d argue about it. One day, I said, ‘Luis, I think we need God in our lives. That’s why we’re fighting so much!’ and he looked shocked.”

Luis says, “I was shocked, because I thought, I should have told her that, myself! So I asked her, ‘Do you really want to know the truth?’ and she said, ‘Yes!’”

As they studied the Bible, Dayana soon learned about the state of the dead—and that God wants us to worship Him on the Sabbath. “I felt betrayed by my church,” she says. “I couldn’t believe I’d been deceived for so long! But I wanted to learn more, so we decided to watch a prophecy seminar on TV that Luis had attended years before. It was called, Millennium of Prophecy with Pastor Doug Batchelor, and I kept think-ing, I think I’ve seen this guy before. Then one day, as we watched, there I was, with my mother, in the audience! I realized that God was looking for me for a long time and He’d accomplished two things at once: Luis went back to church, and I started to learn about God—which is the reason we met in the first place.”

A Call to MinistryDayana began working for the Spanish

TV network, Telemundo, but as a Chris-tian, she became uneasy about their music. “One day, I heard a girl singing, ‘Jezebel, Jezebel!’ and I thought, The only one who knows that word here is me! I need to quit. I need to work for the Lord!”

God brought Luis and Dayana together in New York City.

Amazing Providence

Our Heavenly Father keeps track of our needs with a precision that’s impos-

sible to comprehend. At each moment, He makes sure that all the spiritual, phys-ical, and material resources we need are present. How else could we explain so many answered prayers, so many truths discovered, and so many “coincidences” that have led to salvation? Be encouraged as you read a few of the letters we receive, showing how our God truly supplies every need “according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

In a CellChester, a prisoner in Texas, shares how

the Lord has a purpose in slowing him down. “As I began this time of incarcer-ation, there came a peace over me I can only explain as being washed in God’s love for us all,” he writes. “Living in a box, there are many different challenges each day during this time shared together. But many find time away from the distractions of the world to confess their sins to one another, to repent truthfully to God, and to choose to ask Christ into their hearts. This leads to many Bible studies.

“Thank you so much for the Bible and the book you sent me. They will be used daily in our studies. Here, where the

library is small and the hearts are big, they are truly needed.”

Another prisoner named Hector, writes, “There are 43 TV channels avail-able to me, and 3ABN is the only one that makes sense. Because of you, I’ve learned to honor the seventh-day Sabbath. “Your channel was off for a couple of weeks, so I prayed for it to return, and God honored my prayers! I can’t convey how much information and inspiration I receive from 3ABN daily. I am extremely thankful for the enlightenment in the midst of this dark prison, and I will con-tinue to pray for all of you.”

In DespairEllen, from Caldwell, Idaho, was at a

low point when she discovered 3ABN. “I was in a terrible place in life,” she

writes, “so I decided to turn on my TV, even though I knew nothing good was on.

“I was about to switch it off when the picture jiggled over the program that was on, and a church service with Mark Finley appeared. Mesmerized, I watched; and for the next two-and-a-half years, I never turned off my TV for fear that it would be lost and that I would have no way of receiving it again. I was baptized as a Seventh-day Adventist at age 73.

“I’ve just come home from my tenth stay in the hospital since July of last year. I’m weak, sick, and there’s not much left of me. But I have wonderful children keeping me going, and whenever my mind is clear of pain, I thank my God for His rich blessings.”

Jeanne emailed from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, saying, “Like everyone else during this COVID-19 pandemic, I’m stuck in the house. I used to be an avid athlete, weight lifter, and aerobics instructor. But in the late 1990s, I was severely injured, and for the first few years, I couldn’t exercise, physically or mentally. No matter what I tried, I could never seem to resume any consistent activities.

“But while I was looking through the television channels on Sunday, March 29, 2020, there was Body & Spirit! I’ve been following it, and my stamina has increased tremendously in just four days!

“I am 68 years old, have had a mild heart attack, live alone, and have felt anx-ious while under quarantine. Not only has Body & Spirit motivated me to exercise again, it’s keeping my anxiety at bay. I’m so glad to have found your program and to be getting in gear again. All things happen for a reason, eh? Thanks and stay healthy during this time.”

W ith so many negative things taking place this year, it’s easy to feel hopeless. 3ABN’s Dare to Dream Network aims to provide hope, resources, practical tools for living, and most

I believe that Romans 12:4–5 says it best: “For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.” God has blessed each of us with different gifts and talents, and there is a huge opportunity to use those gifts for Christ. If you are a prayer warrior, we solicit your prayers. If you are a digital evangelist, please share our content with everyone you know. If you are a cheerful giver, well… you get the point. In Matthew 25:36 Jesus says, “I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.” Dare to Dream has been given a tremendous opportunity to take the gospel of Jesus Christ behind prison walls. We are currently living in a time where volunteers are unable to provide religious services, due to health concerns, leaving a void for the men and women who are incarcerated. This is where our opportunity lies. Correctional facilities across the U.S. are looking for religious content, and 3ABN’s Dare to Dream Network is in a position to provide this to them—but we can only do so with your partnership. There are roughly 2.3 million people incarcerated in this country. Please allow me to rephrase that. These are 2.3 million souls for whom Christ died, and with whom He wants to spend eternity. But they must repent and submit their lives to Him. People are hungry for the gospel and it’s our job to feed them.
