God’s People Seeking God’s Presence and God’s Power
Dear Family of God,
It is always my desire to encourage you in each communication. I thought about
the preaching and letters that Paul gives us in God’s Word. He could have been
negative and approached the churches with antagonism and anger, but he always
pointed them to the one who could work out all their problems. That one is Jesus
Christ the Redeemer and the Son of God. There are some things I would like to
say to you in this letter to help you to come to a better understanding of what it
means to be a true Christian.
First of all, Christianity is not just about being good or bad. It does demand right-
eous living, but it is more about a relationship. That relationship is all about the
CENTRALITY OF CHRIST. As a matter of fact, Christianity takes its name
from Christ. Without Christ there would be no such thing as Christianity. There
is no way for us to live the Christian life outside of Christ.
Colossians 1:9-14
“9For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you,
and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and
spiritual understanding; 10that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing
Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience
and longsuffering with joy; 12giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to
be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13He has delivered us
from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His
love, 14in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”
Secondly, we can only understand Christianity from the standpoint of the nature
of THE CHRISTIAN EXPERIENCE. Again, I must say that Christianity is not
altogether about what I do or don’t do. It is altogether about my experience with
the lord Jesus Christ. He lives in me and if I do good, it is He who does good
through me. Paul again spoke so clearly in all of the letters in the New Testament.
Let him speak:
Galatians 2:20
“20I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in
me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who
loved me and gave Himself for me.”
The third truth about true Christianity has to do with THE SIGNIFICANCE OF
THE CHURCH. Jesus loves the church and gave it to His children for their
worship, fellowship, service and well-being. We, the church, are the bride of
Christ. I will talk more about the church in the next issue, but listen to Paul:
Ephesians 5:25-27
“25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Him-
self for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by
the water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church,
not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and
without blemish.”
Remember, I Love All of You, Pastor J.D.
“By this all people will know that you are my disciples. If you have love for one another.” John 13:35
HOMECOMING

brate all our Lord has done for our church.

September is North Carolina Missions Offering month. Throughout the month,
we will be taking an offering to support the 18 different ministries and mission
efforts that the NC Baptists are personally involved in: Disaster Relief, Medical,
Dental & Health Screenings, Deep Impact Mission Camps (Red Springs & Shel-
by), International and National Mission trips, Church Planting and NC Baptist
Men on Mission. The theme for this year’s offering is “Known By Love” and the
2019 state goal is $2.1 million. Please be in prayer for each of these ministries and
how you should give.

We are so excited that out Welcome Center will be up
and running this month out in the vestibule. The pur-
pose of this table is to give a first time visitor a place to
check in and have contact with a friendly face, receive
some important information about our church and re-
ceive a small gift of appreciation for visiting our church.
There will be a schedule each month in the newsletter letting you know
when it is your turn to work the Welcome Center. If for some reason
you are unable to be there for your assigned Sunday, please contact the
next person on the schedule and switch Sundays.
Your responsibilities as a Welcome Center Greeter:
1. Greet each first time visitor with a warm and friendly smile.
2. If it is a family, have one of the family members fill out the “Guest
Card” and attached name tag. Give the other family members a sep-
arate name tag.
3. Give one gift bag per family.
4. If they have an infant—3 years old, let them know about our nursery
and one of you can show them where that is located if they would
like to take their child there.
5. If they have young children, offer them a coloring page and crayons.
6. Let them know that inside the bag is a map showing the locations of
restrooms and children’s area, but to feel free to ask anyone for
help.
7. And finally, thank them for coming and visiting our church.
We would like to thank all the dedicated teachers
for honoring God’s call and teaching Sunday School
this year.
