PROGRAM DETAILS

August 1 & 15: Participants

planning to ride the TR van to

Peach Lanes can arrive as

early as 8:45am and no later

than 9:30am. Open recreation

will be taking place in the

game room until departure

time at 9:45am. We will bowl

at Peach Lanes from 10am un-

til 12pm. Participants wishing

to eat at tbowling should pur-

chase food while bowling. Af-

ter the last bowler finishes we

will travel back to Pop Austin

so other participants can enjoy

their lunch and prepare for

bingo. Bingo will

begin promptly at

1pm.

August 5 & 19: We will start

the day off by learning about

bike safety and the health

benefits of cycling. At 10am

we will head downtown to rent

our cycles and begin the trail.

After the bike trails we will

enjoy lunch Downtown. Par-

ticipants can

bring and eat

their own lunch

or purchase

lunch at Subway.

Bike Rental: FREE

Subway: $6

August 6, 13,20,& 27: Partici-

pants planning to ride the TR

van to Lake Oliver can arrive

as early as 8:45am and no later

than 9:30am. Open recreation

will be taking place in the

game room until departure

time at 9:45am. We will be

fishing at Lake Oliver Marina

from 10am until 12pm. We

also have lunch at the Marina

afterwards. Participants can

bring their lunch or purchase

lunch at the Marina. The Ma-

rina will provide cane poles

for the participants to use,

participants also bring their

own fishing supplies. Bait can

be purchased at the Marina for

a minimal fee.

There will be open recreation

at Pop Austin from 1pm until

closing.

August 7, 14, 21, & 28: : Par-

ticipants planning to ride the

TR van to Cooper Creek can

arrive as early as 8:45am and

no later than 9:30am. Open

recreation will be taking place

in the game room until depar-

ture time at 9:45am. We will

be playing tennis at Cooper

Creek from 10am until 12pm.

Lunch we will be eaten once

we arrive back at Pop Austin.

Cooking class begins at 1pm.

**There will be no cooking

class on Aug. 14th. We will be

traveling to the Caribbean's

during Armchair travel. Arm-

chair travel-Caribbean's will

begin at 1pm.

Field Trips:

August 12: TR will be taking a

field trip to Oxbow Meadows

Environmental Learning

Center. Afterwards, we will

have a picnic if weather

permits. Garden club will meet

at 1pm after the field trip.

August 26: TR will be going

to Columbus Park Crossing.

Participants will be focusing

on learning how to

independently shop and

appropriately interact with

others in the public settings.

Afterwards, we will go to Red

Robin’s to have lunch.

Red Robin’s: $15

Note: Unless otherwise

noted, all day programs

(9am-2pm) will require par-

ticipants to bring lunch.

Take home is also available

to those that qualify.

A NOTE ABOUT RESERVATION FORMS:

Reservation forms must be returned before the 1st of the month if you plan to use TR transportation to an event, so that we have an accurate count and can request the appropriate size vehicle. Please be sure to get these back to us in a timely manner. If you plan to meet us at the location reservations forms can be turned in two (2) days before programming. Pay-ments must be received at least two (2) days before attending the program. Newsletters are distributed in the manner that they were requested when you completed your membership application. If you lose your newsletter, or for some reason have not received one within 48 hours before the next program month, please call us or pull one up on our website at:

Armchair Travel: Caribbean's

Come travel with us as Ms. Tamlin takes us to the

Caribbean’s. We learn about the culture, food

and recreation in the

Caribbean Island.

On Tuesday, August 6th Therapeutic Rec-

reation will be having a National Night

Out Block Party at Pop Austin Recrea-

tion Center. The event will kick of at 6pm

and last until 8pm and open to all people

with disabilities and their caregivers.

There will be food , music, games and

more. Help support this event as an

endeavor to keep our community safe.

Special Thanks to Jason and the staff at Ride

on Bikes for allowing the Therapeutic

Recreation Program to

rent cycles free of charge

while we get fit and

practice for

Special Olympics.
