Look Out for the Following Articles from the Class of 2014 on Their Fantastic Experiences This Past Summer:

NYCOM Summer Research Symposium This summer seven students participated in research with faculty members. Check out their work from 12-2pm on August 24, 2011 in the Riland Auditorium (NYCOM II) and learn about possible research opportunities at NYCOM!

NYCOM SAAO Summer Preceptorship Program Students had the opportunity to shadow clinical faculty at NYCOM and observe clinical applications of Osteopathic Manipulation Medicine (OMM). The program also offered several workshops to practice and learn more about OMM.

NYCOM Community Health Experience Program (CHE) at Area Health Education Center (AHEC) This is another competitive program that occurs for six weeks every year. This year thirteen NYCOM students were placed in different areas in New York City. This program is designed to increase awareness among students about healthcare dispari-ties. You have the opportunity to work as an adult educator or as a mentor for high school students or participate in public health research. Didactics and group discus-sions with experts help students understand current problems in public health and develop critical thinking.

Programs Outside of NYCOM Many students also actively participated in programs offered by other institutions and organizations. Students travelled to countries like Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Haiti with various volunteer healthcare organizations. There are teaching hospitals in the New York Metropolitan Area, which offer summer fellowship and research opportunities for medical students.
