Signing up your child or youth for sports or SKIESUnlimited classes at JBLM-Lewis Main has never been easier, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home. CYS Services now provides an online service for registration, pay-ment, parent orientation appointments, hourly care reservations and sports and SKIES enrollments and more.

Try it by visiting JBLMmwr.com, click-ing on the online registration button and choosing CYS Services Online. The link will take you to a new user page. Sign in as “guest” and begin to explore all the options you have available:

• Start new registrations.

• Register for SKIESUnlimited classes, youth sports or special activities.

• Make payments on your month-ly childcare fees.

• Reprint receipts and tax statements.

If you’re a returning user who is

newly stationed at JBLM, you can have

your CYS Services records transferred from another Army Garrison.

“If you’re new to CYS Services, the preregistration process takes you through, step by step,” says John Kum-her, Program Operations Specialist for CYS Services. “CYS Services staff will call you for an appointment to finalize your registration. You’ll also be given a registration key for each child for all future transactions.

“When parents do come in to final-ize the registration process, they know what it’s for and they are optimizing their time,” Kumher says. “Their frus-tration factor will also go way down when reminders for upcoming SKIES and sports are put in place online, and parents can look at online calendars for what they have coming up.”

Kumher, a parent who uses CYS Services programs, designed the clean look, easy instructions and user-friend-ly interface to maximize your time online, as well. He likens Parent Cen-tral online to shopping online, with a check-out basket, reminders for regular users, a question-and-answer page and

a way to contact CYS Services with the option for phone or e-mail reply.

Parent Central new to McChord FieldMcChord Field now has a Parent Cen-

tral satellite registration office located inside Bldg. 100 in the Customer Service Mall. You can make payments for child-care fees, make hourly reservations and enroll your family into youth programs activities, such as sports and youth cen-ter trips. McChord Field online services will soon be included.

For more information on the Mc-Chord Field registration center, call 253-982-1002/1001.

Recreation comes to your desktop

CYS Services programs aren’t the only one-stop online services around. JBLM is welcoming RecTrac to its rec-reational services, an essential move for easy online sign-ups, reservations and tickets for MWR recreation.

Go to the online registration link at JBLMmwr.com and click on RecTrac; sign in as a guest and tour around. When you want to sign up, simply go through the registration process. If you are active duty, remember to go to a recreational facility to change your online status to active duty for reduced rates (you’re registered as a civilian without ID benefits when reg-istering on line for the first time).

You’ll soon discover you can register for races, reserve tee times, save your spot for a brunch or buffet, sign up for outdoor recreational trips, buy dis-count tickets, and sign up for classes, lessons, parties, special events and so much more. For more information on what you’ve signed up for, call the MWR facility directly.

While online WebTrac service is already available on the Army network, WebTrac availability at McChord Field is slated for completion in the early fall.

Family & the homefront

SBy Kimberly Rowe

SKIESUnlimited is a ground-breaking program offering instruction in aca-demics, arts, life skills and sports.

The program’s goal is to offer JBLM children and youth classes that inspire lifelong learning, cultivate interests and talents and educate for future suc-cess. SKIESUnlimited provides a place for JBLM families to meet, establish connections and build community. Parents will find a variety of classes in which to enroll their children or youth, ages 6 weeks through 18 years of age.

Hillside SKIES, Bldg. 6398, opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 12 at JBLM-Lewis Main. The new facil-ity is home to a culinary kitchen, gym-nastics room, art and science room and much more. “The facility is not only home to SKIESUnlimited classes but home to a new program called EDGE! and other CYS Services activities,” says Tracey Wilkinson, MWR Partnership Specialist. For more information on EDGE!, an after-school program for

youth ages 6–18, visit JBLMmwr.com/CYS or call 253-966-CYSS.

Since SKIESUnlimited was launched in January 2006, the program has strived to offer only top-rate and innova-tive classes in four pillars of learning: knowledge, inspiration, exploration and skills. There is a class for nearly every interest. Schedules vary from quarter to quarter and many are seasonal. During the summer months when most chil-dren are out of school, extended week-long workshops and many daytime classes are offered.

Some classes may be cost-free to families using Army Family Covenant benefits. To see this quarter’s class of-ferings, visit JBLMmwr.com. For more information about AFC benefits and registration details, visit JBLMmwr.com/CYS or call 253-966-CYSS.

The ‘SKIES’ the limitExciting learning possibilities abound for children and youth with CYS Services

Sign up for a gymnastics class at the new SKIESUnlimited facility. For a complete list of this quarter’s classes, visit JBLMmwr.com or call 253-966-3539.

Family Child CareMake a difference in the lives of mil-

itary children and families—become a Family Child Care Provider! Care for your own children and others from the security of your own home, both on and off base. As an FCC Provider, you can earn up to $2,000 per month while doing something you love.

FCC offers nurturing care in a home-setting for children from six weeks to 12 years of age:

• Part-day• Full-day• Before- and after-school• Long-term care during field

exercises and deployments• Care for children with special needs

FCC Providers receive the same training as child development center employees, have access to educational and development resources and receive subsidies. If you’re interested in providing top-rate child care in your home, call 253-967-3039 to find out about the next orientation class. Free child care is provided during training.

Providers undergo extensive back-ground checks and receive frequent home visits from CYS Services pro-fessionals to ensure care is provided in a safe, educational and warm envi-ronment. No more than six children can be enrolled in an FCC home. This group size offers children the op-portunity for individualized time and attention from their provider.

If you’re interested in enrolling your child in FCC, visit JBLMmwr.com/CYS or call 253-966-CYSS.

Children will enjoy the Tumble Bus and art activities while parents tour the SKIESUnlimited Building Friday, Aug. 27 from 1 to 5 p.m. Refresh-ments will be available. For more information about the reintegration class, visit JBLMmwr.com.

Swim, wade, get wetCome on in—the swimming’s fine!

Shoreline Park is the best place to swim with lifeguards on duty, a pool house and swimming area with a waterslide, wading area and watercraft rentals. The park also features play equipment, pavilions and sites for picnicking, a horseshoe pit and a fishing area.

There’s no limit to getting out on the lake. You can find rentals for just about everything, including 16-foot fishing boats, pontoons and jet skis at Russell Landing Marina; water skis at the Northwest Adventure Center; and paddle boats, canoes and kayaks at Shoreline Park.

You’ll get safety training if it’s your first time renting watercraft. Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis; human-powered boats, jet skis and pontoons can be reserved.

a lakefront log cabin? Find your choice of rentals—from studio to three bed-rooms—in a natural setting. The NAC takes your reservations up to 90 days prior to your requested arrival date.

Italian bistro-style restaurant? The

newly opened Bistro at Russell Land-ing complements your leisure time along the waterfront. For lunch, try pizza, pasta, sandwiches and salads. Dine inside or on the patio overlooking the marina while you enjoy your meal, drinks and gelato.

Lunch is served daily, and dinner is served Thursday through Satur-day. Preview the menu online at JBLMmwr.com. If you’re in a hurry, call 253-964-2813 for quick pick-up or curbside service.

Family Readiness Groups can sched-ule meetings at the Bistro Monday through Wednesday after 2 p.m.

Avoid school budget

Free tutor assistance! Get help from a professional tutor any time you need it for more than 16 subjects. Free online tutors are available at tutor.com. Visit or call the base libraries at 253-982-3454 (McChord Field) or 253-967-5533 (Book Patch) to obtain a password.

By Ryki Carlson

August begins our transition from summer to fall, which means tackling school shopping. When we procrasti-nate, we often feel overwhelmed later. The prices of school supplies have skyrocketed, but it’s not impossible to save money. Here are some ideas to help you stay within budget:• Begin with a list of required supplies.

• Check your home school supplies first.

• Consider hand-me-down supplies from one sibling to another.

• Hunt for coupons in weekly fliers or online at spoofee.com.

• Call around to find out who will match a competitor’s coupon or advertisement so you can use all the coupons and ads from various retail-ers while saving time and money.

• If you’re new to using coupons, consider attending the Coupon Sense class at ACS.

• Buy in bulk. Stock up on school sup-plies during the back-to-school sales—this is the cheapest time of the year for these items!

• For graphing and scientific calcula-tors, call the school and ask if they have a loan program. Many schools have these to loan out but only in limited supplies. Adding into your budget for yearly

supplies helps avoid financial shock. Tracking your school supply expenses can help you prepare for future years. If you need assistance in budgeting, consider enrolling into the Planning and Budgeting class.

Learn how to be money-wise The Financial Readiness Program

classes are open to military personnel, retirees and their spouses. Youth ages 13 and older are welcome to attend.

First-term Soldiers are required to take eight hours of personal financial man-agement readiness training (AR 608-1, Section V, Paragraph 4-38c). The train-ing is available in four two-hour seg-ments Tuesdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.Other money-wise classes offered are:• Planning and Budgeting: Tools for

evaluating, setting up and planning a budget Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 2:30 p.m.

• Coupon Sense: Learn the value clip-ping coupons Thursday, Aug. 26 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. For a complete list of classes, go to

the MWR calendar at JBLMmwr.com. Classes are taught by FRP financial counselors and are held in the ACS Classroom, Waller Hall, room 400 (except for the Commissary Tour). To reserve a seat or for more details, call 253-967-7166.

Interactive Customer Evaluation

School is out, and we are well into summer. Soldiers, family members and civilian employees are all looking for ways to enjoy this wonderful time of year. JBLM DFMWR has just about ev-erything you could think of – Sports & Fitness Centers, Arts & Crafts Centers and much, much more – check out JBLMmwr.com for a calendar of events and more information, and sign up for activities that peak your interest.

Once you have finished, take the opportunity to submit a comment through the Interactive Customer Evaluation system. Let service managers for those special events and activities know what went well and, as important, what concerns you may have. Your voice makes a difference and will help improve services and activities on JBLM.

Here’s some of what you had to say this month about your recent visits to JBLM facilities and the service you received:

Family & Morale, Welfare & RecreationGymnasiums and fitness complexes“Melva is kind, polite and always greets you with a smile. Along with Rosalind, who shows the same kindness and pro-fessionalism. I would like to cite them for quality service.”

“I just want to say how glad I am for the Saturday morning Zumba class (10:30 to 11:30). Krishelle is an awesome teacher. She always has a smile on her face and is so energetic. This class is a big reason I attend this gym.”

“For me, McVeigh has to be the best gym. The staff is outstanding.”

Arts & Crafts“Victoria and staff provided engraving on personal challenge coins for my Soldiers. We had just returned from a deployment to Iraq, and the coins were presented in gratitude to my squad.”

“Absolutely outstanding job much better service to military community at greater value than off post provides.”

Leisure Travel Services“We just got home from our southern California/DisneyLand vacation, and it was amazing. We had a great time at great fa-cilities, and everything went off flawlessly. Thanks to LTS for all the help.”

ICE is your way to have your voice heard. JBLM wants to know what you think about your latest visit to a facil-ity or special event.

Were you satisfied with the service?

Did it meet your needs? Whether you had a great experi-

ence to share or have a suggestion,

visit https://ice.disa.mil. Your voice will be heard – your comments are sent straight to managers and the com-mand group. ICE is also accessible through Army OneStop kiosks, which are located across JBLM-Lewis. The more feedback you provide, the better JBLM facilities and staff can serve you.
