hot August day. Charles Delphenis gave the invocation, quoting medieval

theologian Meister Eckhart, “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” Charles also noted that Doug McNair is now out of ICU after having triple bypass surgery and that his own wife is recovering from the first of two hip replacement surgeries. Please keep them in

your prayers. John Gilchrist led the Pledge of Allegiance and “God Bless America,” followed a verse of “This Land Is Your Land.” Linda Tun-

nell introduced our visitors and guests. Dax Seale introduced

The Hub and the web advertisers of the week. Jim Mills that RCPC has its own Foundation, separate from the RI Founda-tion, and that “vol-untary” contribu-tions of at least

$50 are ex-pected when your name appears in the Funders box in The Hub. President Rick announ-ced that twenty-eight members still had not paid their dues, but their anon-ymity was running out.

ced our speaker today, Sherri Elliot-Yeary, the author of Ties and Tattoos and business con-sultant. She began by commenting on the current busi-ness climate, which

has evolved into a new workforce, a new workplace, and a new mar-ketplace. She said the reality was that today most businesses have to interview fifteen applicants to find one employee to hire. She works with businesses to help them to recruit, retain and reward a multi-generational work-force. She defines the “generations” as Tra-ditionalists (born between 1922 and 1943), Boomers (born 1944-1960), GenX-ers (born 1961-1980) and Millenials (born 1981-2000). She stated that the young people entering the workforce are having a hard time finding jobs, but that they have student loans to repay, and also have a sense of entitlement. The GenX-ers are feeling sandwiched right now, with little room to move up because the Boom-ers and Traditionalists are still working, but the Millenials are pushing for jobs. In the cur-rent corporate climate, the best and the most talented have choices, and they prefer work-places where they feel welcome and appreci-ated. One of the challenges of the older work-ers is to impart their knowledge to younger workers who have a superior knowledge of technology. She gave some tips for attrac-ting younger workers, such as to develop a corporate image online and to tailor benefits to the right generational mix. She believes that inclusion in the workplace requires that the generational mix to work well together. She closed by inviting everyone to take a free online assessment of how effectively you communicate with younger generations on her website, www.geninsyght.com.

THOUGHTS ON . . .

EntertainmentThere are days when any electri-cal appliance in the house, inclu- ding the vacuum cleaner, offers more entertainment than the TV set. ~ Harriet Van HorneThe movies are the only busi-ness where you can go out front and applaud yourself.

~ Will RogersTelevision is a medium of enter-tainment which permits millions of people to listen to the same joke at the same time, and yet remain lonesome. ~ T.S. EliotThere is only one thing that can kill the Movies, and that is education. ~ Will RogersNo entertainment is so cheap as reading, nor any pleasure so lasting. ~ Lady Mary
