Welcome:
Presider: Let us worship God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
Presider: Almighty God,
People: to you all hearts are open,
all desires known,
and from you no secrets are hidden.
Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Glory to God: To God Be the Glory #371, vs.1
Tune: (Idem)
To God be the glory, who great things has done!
God so loved the world freely sending the Son,
Who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.
Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
And give God the glory, who great things has done!
~Fanny J. Crosby (1820-1915)

Prayer of the Day: Presider: Let us pray.
Silence is kept
Almighty God,
your Son Jesus Christ fed the hungry
with the bread of his life
and the word of his kingdom.
Renew your people with your heavenly grace,
and in all our weakness
sustain us by your true and living bread,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
THE PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD OF GOD We read and respond to God’s message in Scripture
First Reading: Genesis 32:22-31
The same night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two
maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the
Jabbok. He took them and sent them across the stream, and
likewise everything that he had. Jacob was left alone; and a man
wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that he did
not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and
Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he
said, "Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said, "I will
not let you go, unless you bless me." So he said to him, "What is
your name?" And he said, "Jacob." Then the man said, "You shall
no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with
God and with humans, and have prevailed." Then Jacob asked
him, "Please tell me your name." But he said, "Why is it that you
4
ask my name?" And there he blessed him. So Jacob called the
place Peniel, saying, "For I have seen God face to face, and yet my
life is preserved." The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel,
limping because of his hip.
Reader: The word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Psalm 17:1-7, 15
Hear my plea of innocence, O Lord; give heed to my cry; listen to
my prayer, which does not come from lying lips.
Let my vindication come forth from your presence; let your
eyes be fixed on justice.
Weigh my heart, summon me by night, melt me down; you will
find no impurity in me.
I give no offence with my mouth as others do; I have heeded
the words of your lips.
My footsteps hold fast to the ways of your law; in your paths my
feet shall not stumble.
I call upon you, O God, for you will answer me; incline your
ear to me and hear my words.
Show me your marvellous loving-kindness, O Saviour of those
who take refuge at your right hand from those who rise up
against them.
But at my vindication I shall see your face; when I awake, I
shall be satisfied, beholding your likeness.
5
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Hymn 397: Praise the One Who Breaks the Darkness
Tune: Nettleton
Praise the One who breaks the darkness
With a liberating light.
Praise the One who frees the prisoners,
Turning blindness into sight.
Praise the One who preached the gospel,
Healing every dread disease,
Calming storms and feeding thousands
With the very bread of peace.
Praise the One who blessed the children
With a strong yet gentle word.
Praise the One who drove out demons
With a piercing, two-edged sword.
Praise the one who brings cool water
To the desert's burning sand.
From this well comes living water,
Quenching thirst in every land.
Praise the One true love incarnate:
Christ who suffered in our place.
Jesus died and rose for many
That we may know God by grace.
Let us sing for joy and gladness,
Seeing what our God has done.
Praise the one redeeming glory;
Praise the One who makes us one.
~The Reverend Dr. Rusty Edwards (b. 1955)

The Gospel: Matthew 14:13-21
Gospeller: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Gospeller: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,
according to Matthew.
People: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ!
Gospeller: Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there
in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds
heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he
went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for
them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples
came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is
now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the
villages and buy food for themselves." Jesus said to them, "They
need not go away; you give them something to eat." They
replied, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish."
And he said, "Bring them here to me." Then he ordered the
crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the
two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the
loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave
them to the crowds. And all ate and were filled; and they took up
what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. And
those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women
and children.
Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ. People: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!
Sermon: The Reverend Brian Suggs

The Apostles Creed:
Presider: I invite those who would like to make a profession of
Christian faith to join with me in the Apostles’ Creed.
People: I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again
to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Presider: Having reaffirmed our faith, let us prepare to offer
our prayers to God.
Prayers of the People: For the Church, those in authority, the world, our community,
the sick and those in need, for the departed,
and for the forgiveness of our sins.
8
Confession and Absolution:
Presider: While we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit,
God promises to heal and forgive us.
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God.
cf Romans 5:8
Presider: God our Father,
People: long-suffering, full of grace and truth,
you create us from nothing and give us life.
You give your faithful people new life
in the water of baptism.
You do not turn your face from us,
nor cast us aside.
We confess that we have sinned
against you and our neighbour.
We have wounded your love
and marred your image in us.
Restore us for the sake of your Son,
and bring us to heavenly joy,
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Presider: Almighty God have mercy upon you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in eternal life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
People: Amen.
9
The Peace: Having prayed for God’s grace and peace for us and the world,
we offer an exchange of peace with one another.
As you are comfortable, you may use the live chat to say, “Peace be with you”
to those participating online.
Presider: The peace of the Lord be always with you.
People: And also with you.
Hymn 469: Sing Praises Old and New
Tune: Fondren
Sing praises old and new,
Past and present join in one.
Old covenants renew:
New commitments have begun.
God's soaring purpose spans
All ages, lives and lands.
Christ's open, wounded hands
Past and present join in one.
Word, from the heart of God,
Costly, unexpected grace;
Love, making all things good,
Light of all the human race;
Hail, Wisdom, deep and vast,
Shining in Israel's past,
Raising the least and last:
Costly, unexpected grace!
Great Spirit, make us wise,
Doors of promise open wide.
Through evil's deadly lies
Truth and goodness set aside,
Faith never stands alone,
10
Hope rolls away the stone,
Love makes your presence known,
Doors of promise open wide.
People of hope, be strong!
Love is making all things new.
Lift our united song,
Show what faith can dream and do!
Come, Presence ever near,
Revive us, year by year.
Sing through our joy and fear,
"Love is making all things new!"
~The Reverend Brian A. Wren (b. 1936)
The Lord’s Prayer: Mass for the King of Glory
Betty Pulkingham (b. 1928)

11
Doxology: Presider: Glory to God

than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from
generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ
Jesus, forever and ever. Amen.

a thanksgiving, birthday, anniversary etc. this month – any good news!
Leader: Let us call down God’s blessing!
People: God give you many, many years
to thank him for his blessings here;
And many, many, many more
To pray God still his grace to pour.
12
Blessing:
Presider: May the Father from whom every family in earth and
heaven receives its name strengthen you with his
Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in
your hearts by faith, and the blessing of God
Almighty,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain
with you always. Amen. cf Ephesians 3.15-19
