Gathering

Confession and Absolution

God is doing something new; Open your minds to see what God is doing around you. God is planting new seeds; Open your hearts to feel what God is doing within you. God is calling our names; Come, let us worship God; Come, join together our hearts and minds to follow Jesus Christ our Lord.

silence for reflection Holy One, we come before You confessing that sometimes it is too hard. Sometimes we are so tired. We don’t want to hear the cries of the poor because they never stop. We don’t want to know how bad things are for others because we are caught up in

how bad things are for ourselves. Forgive us when we close ourselves off, forgetting that our Savior called upon us to love our neighbor as ourselves,

forgetting that our Savior was among the poor and the lonely and the homeless, forgetting that our Savior called us to deny ourselves to take up our cross to follow him. Forgive us, in the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.

God knows our flaws and our shortcomings, and through the Jesus Christ+, God calls

us precious and invites us to live in a new way. Forgive others, and know you are forgiven, and join your hearts in God’s work.

Offertory Response We Are an Offering ELW 692

We lift our voices, we lift our hands, we lift our lives up to you: we are an offering Lord use our voices, Lord, use our hands, Lord, use our lives, they are yours: we are an offering All that we have, all that we are, all that we hope to be, we give to you, we give to you. We lift our voices, we lift our hands, we lift our lives up to you: we are an offering, we are an offering.

Offering Prayer

Loving God, help us understand what you would have us do. Even on this sabbath day there are people to take care of, work to do, justice to further and righteousness to enact. Touch our mouths to give us blessed words, holy our hands to do your work, and bless these gifts from both our pockets and our abilities to enact your will today and beyond. Amen.

Great Thanksgiving

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Preface

It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Eucharistic Prayer

Today our table deserves to be lit by fire – not mere candles but a hot, vibrant flame that cooks bread, warms chills, chases away fears, and brings comfort to those lost in darkness. This simple table of bread and cup is anything but simple, and unites us with brothers and sisters of all time and place and practice. It unites us with our Triune God who creates, redeems and sustains. At this table we hear the reverberations of Jeramiah’s sometimes terrifying words. We hear the testimony of the woman freed from bondage and all those liberated by our scriptures and our Christ. This is the table of those who take refuge from the toils of life. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Breathe life in us and these simple gifts of bread and wine, Holy Spirit of God—through Jesus Christ, let these everyday gifts of bread and cup become for us soul-sustaining meal. Join us together as one loving community of neighbors. Amen!

Lord’s Prayer

Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught

(Abba Imma/Our Father) in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
