Hello Parents!
Last time you and I looked at a moment in Moses’ life. We placed ourselves in
the story and then reflected on the account as parents. I invite you today to
take another famous Bible character, Abraham, use your imagination to enter
the scene, and then contemplate how his story can help you as a parent.
Let’s begin with a prayer together. “Come Holy Spirit, fill our hearts and enkin-
dle in us the fire of your love. Help us as parents to learn from the example of
our father in faith, your servant Abraham. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Abraham was a great man of faith in God. Abraham loved and trusted God,
and in fact, had several personal encounters with God! God had blessed him
in his old age with a son and a land of promise. He was the founder of the na-
tion of Israel. He lived hundreds of years before the Israelites were slaves in
Egypt when Moses from last time lived. Read Abraham’s story now in Genesis
chapter 12 to chapter 25. Imagine yourselves in the story. What do you see?
What do your senses tell you? Who do you imagine yourself as in the story?
Imagine the trust Abraham had to follow God’s direction! To pack up and
move where God directed him. To have confidence that each promise God
made to him would come true.
Let’s examine one particular account in Abraham’s life together. Read Gene-
sis 22:1-22. God was testing his faith, but as a parent. How faithful are you to
God, as a parent? Do you take seriously your responsibility to educate your
children in the Catholic faith, bring them to mass every week no matter where
you are, and guide them in becoming strong disciples of Christ? We are called
to make many sacrifices for our children (vs 2), both physically and spiritually,
and in this verse Abraham was called to physically offer his son up to the
Lord. Could you have done that? Whatever service (vocation) to others God
calls them to, we need to trust in God’s plan for their life. Isaac trusted his
father (vss 6-7). Do your children trust you to lead them spiritually? Are you a
good spiritual role model? What does your spiritual direction look like? Is it
kind, yet firm, leading your children to Jesus? Parent classes to help you do
just that are beginning September 15 at 9:15 in the school. I invite you to at-
tend and let God mold you into the parents he is wanting you to be!
Your fellow servant in Christ, Chris
“Dear Jesus, in everything I say, and in everything I do, in everything today,
may it glorify YOU!”

My Dear People of God, Thursday August 15th is a Holy Day of Obligation, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Masses are: Vigil on Wed. August 14th at 5:30 pm, Thurs. August 15th 7:00 am, 8:30 am, 5:30 pm Latin (Ext. Form) and 7:00pm Spanish. Please plan on attending.
A Few words to live by:
Living the Catholic faith embraces our moral lives and our values. Loving the Catholic faith embraces the sacramental and devotional life with its rich heritage. Learning the Catholic faith involves our educational programs such as the school and the Faith Formation programs. Pope Benedict put it best when he challenges us to “Open our Hearts and make room for everything that the faith itself al-lows”.
God bless you all.

St. Anthony Weekly Calendar Aug. 12th to Aug. 18th,
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Thursday August 15th is a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass times: are as follows Wed. Aug. 14th 5:30pm Vigil Thurs. Aug. 15th 7, 8:30am, 5:30pm Latin & 7pm Spanish.
Join me in prayer for St. Anthony parish: O God where our parish is asleep in the faith, may it reawaken. Where pray-er is seldom, may our people rediscover the power in pray-er. Where God has been pushed to the margins of their lives, may they place God once again on the throne of their hearts. Where families have little time for God, for the Mass, for the sacraments, for prayer or for observing God’s law, may they be reborn and so inherit the gift of Eternal Life. St. John Vianney, Pray for us. Amen.
