Often, our sight becomes limited to what is immediately before us. We lose touch with lessons and experiences from the past and promises and hope for the future. As human beings, we have the privilege of being able to choose things. What I like and don’t like, want, and don’t want can be major preoccupations of our minds and hearts. Our prefer- ences and desires begin to define us more than the simple fact of our being. Who we are matters more than what we are or what we have. If we don’t move beyond the external and superficial stuff to what really is of essence, we risk becom- ing very unsettled, disorientated, angry, and unhappy. We fail to see the bigger picture of hope and promise that lies ahead and the Divine Presence that has sustained and carried us before. We like it when the “now” time of our lives satisfy us. Even the people who witnessed Jesus feed the five thousand got confused and distracted. It felt good when thousands of people were able to eat. They wanted to know what they could do to get this to happen again! But Jesus quickly reminds them that this is not the point of this sign. As much as the now time of our lives is of concern, it is not what is ultimately important. We need to learn the difference between being We need to learn the difference between being We need to learn the difference between being We need to learn the difference between being and doing, drawing more strength from who we are and who God is rather than what is happening around us and and doing, drawing more strength from who we are and who God is rather than what is happening around us and and doing, drawing more strength from who we are and who God is rather than what is happening around us and and doing, drawing more strength from who we are and who God is rather than what is happening around us and the choices we can make the choices we can make the choices we can make the choices we can make. . . . Jesus is the true bread that came down from heaven. Jesus is the very incarnate presence of God who sustains life and assures us that we will not perish. This is not easy to understand and feel. We have to practice being in the presence of ourselves, others, creation, and God. We are brought to a holy place when we encounter the sa- credness of being. This is real prayer. Then, we learn to trust. It is when we cease trusting that we start to become afraid, uncertain, apprehensive, and doubt- ful, and overly self-concerned. We even start to grumble. God has our back. That is the essential powerful message of the living bread come down from heaven. God, who is alpha is also omega, the beginning and the end, and has everything in between in his care as well. A woman once remarked that her most powerful God moment happened when she and her husband cuddled with their new baby for a time. Without exchanging words and using only the affection communicated through sight and touch, they rested in being with each other. This brought them to the sacred, where they realized that a greater Being was with them. It was real. They knew that they were part of something bigger, intimate, and profound. When we rest in the Living Source of life, we will find that our souls are no longer hungry or thirsty.

As friends and followers of Jesus, we help ourselves and our commu-nities to visibly live out discipleship through the mission and ministry of

the Catholic Church.

St. John the Baptist,

Filled with the Holy Spirit, you led all those who came to you to Jesus Christ. Help us now allow the same

Holy Spirit to transform us and our

community as we bring one another into a deeper rela-tionship with Christ. Only filled with the love of his Spir-it as you were can we hear the will of God for our-

selves and for our parish family. Only with the love of his Spirit can we have the wisdom and courage to do what he is asking of us now and in our future. Lord, we thank you for your many gifts and ask that you please continue to bless us with the resources needed so that

we may carry on doing your work.

May all that we do bring you

Glory and make manifest your loving kingdom here on earth. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our

Lord, Amen. Come Holy Spirit!Come Holy Spirit!Come Holy Spirit!Come Holy Spirit!

UPDATEUPDATEUPDATEUPDATE For the past year St

John the Baptist has generously shared with our neighbors in need through our Little Free Pantry. If you have not yet taken the time to check out the pantry, please do so. It is located next to the Rosary Garden. It is a beautiful structure and well stocked due to our compassionate parishioners. The next time you find yourself at the grocery store with possibly a little extra cash, please consider making a purchase to share. Breakfast cereal, paper products, hy-giene items and snacks are always well received. Please keep in mind the weather when deciding what to donate. A bag of chocolate chips may make a delightful donation in fall, but in the August heat may just make a mess. If the pantry is full when you go to stock your items, please place them in the overflow tub in the porch of the parish office. Items must be non-perishable. Thank you

church.

We’re proud to announce that Toby Beatty a parishioner here at St. Johns was recently a camper at Camp Tekakwitha, and at the end of him session, he was a recipient of the Spirit of Kateri Award!

Each week, Camp Tekakwitha staff awards the Spirit of Kateri Award to exceptional campers in recognition of their leadership, love of Christ, and dedication to serving their cabinmates and friends at Camp Tekakwitha. Toby was one of the three campers awarded in his session, nominated by his counselors and selected by the staff!

Saint Kateri Tekakwitha displayed a deep love for Jesus amidst numerous obstacles, and was a witness to Christ and a friend to many. St. Kateri Tekakwitha’s intercession guides the staff and campers of Camp Tekakwitha as they strive to imitate her wit-ness of love, selflessness, and friendship. Toby was a definite leader in his cabin and certainly emulated the “spirit” of our great patroness St. Kateri in acts of kindness and love.

Winners of the Spirit of Kateri Award are honored among the campers and parents, and receive a shirt with St. Kateri’s famous words, “I am not my own, I have given myself entirely to Jesus.” We’re so proud of Toby!
