    LET US PRAY

    MERCY

Among the attributes of God, although they are allequal, mercy shines with even more brilliance

    than justice. Miguel de Cervantes

    SAINT JOHN MARY VIANNEY (1786-1859)

A busy pastor jokingly suggests the secret ofJohn Vianneys holiness: He died seventeen yearsbefore telephones! Call they didnt, but visit theydid, keeping Vianney eighteen hours a day in theconfessional. Stories abound of reading heartsand exorcisms, but Vianneys first miracle was

getting ordained. Difficulty with studies delayedhim, prompting the rectors apology to the bishop,So far to ordain just one, especially this one! Thebishop, who could not know he was ordaining thefuture patron saint of parish priests, replied, Noburden to ordain one good priest! In Ars, only anelderly handful attended Mass, praying, one toldVianney, for a priest with brains. But he stayedforty-two years, fulfilling the promise he madethe day he arrived. In a sculpture just outside the

village Vianney points skyward: Show me theway to Ars, he tells a boy, and Ill show you theway to heaven. To someone who feared therewas no heaven beyond the grave, Vianney smiled,My child, it would have been heaven enough tohave lived as Jesus disciple on earth.Peter Scagnelli, Copyright, J. S. CELEBRANT SCHEDULE

    Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 1, 2010Teach us to number our days aright,

that we may gain wisdom of heart. Psalm 90:12

I feel sorry and pray for all those who were affected by the flood last Saturday. Some people showed me pic-tures with the boat by their house. Unbelievable. I know how you feel because Ive been there twice. Unfortu-nately we had some water in our parish buildings. My confessional was flooded which means that we have aleak in the small flat roof on the left side of the church. We have to fix it because I do not know how to swim.We had some water in Rogers Hall but the old churchs basement suffered the most. The water was almost twofeet high. Our pumps were working, but the sewers were blocked. The water is gone, but the damage is done.

We are waiting for the insurance company representative to see it and then we will have to order a dumpster tothrow things out. We will announce when, so that you could possibly help us if needed.Since we are talking about the conditions of our buildings I want to inform you that we are going to replace

all the old windows in the school by August 20th, because it became dangerous for our children and secondly, you know how difficult it is to maintain the building with bad windows. We are hoping for a successful carnivalwhich will bring us additional funds for the purchase of the windows. Please support our carnival. After thecarnival we will seal our main church parking lot to prevent it from further cracks and damage. We are thinkinghow to beautify the area by the old church from the side off State Road where the trees used to be. Maybe wewill plant grass and flowers. Let us know if you have any ideas or gardening experience and would like to shareit with us. Many people remind me about necessity of remodeling our bathrooms in Rogers Hall. We wereready to do it and then a suggestion was made that maybe we should go for handicap accessible bathrooms, which is more complicated and more expensive. We will make our decision soon and move on this

important project. We can do these improvements thanks to your generosity. Most of the renovations done so far were covered

by the offerings for the second collection every first Sunday, which is called Parish Needs. Now its time for the good news. The good news is that on Monday, July 26th we had our first Youth Group

meeting and about forty young people attended. I want to thank their parents since some of the participantsadmitted that they came because their moms made them go. Any reason is good to become involved in the lifeof the church. Those who couldn't make it for the first meeting, please join us on Tuesday, August 17at 6:00 p.m. At that meeting we will be talking about how the Youth Group can help at our carnival to make itsuccessful.

Todays Gospel tells us what our true treasure is. I think that the faithful people of God are the greatesttreasure of St. Albert the Great and our Youth is the future. God bless you all.
