Create your own AR resources using Aurasma – the most flexible AR tool currently for education. Create ‘talking books’. Annotate items with explanatory video e.g. artefacts, student artwork. Attach performance footage to written tasks for assessment and sharing with parents. Enhance school newsletters with multimedia. Additional information below.

Inspire creative writing using the Proto and Dragon AR examples. Explore the future of marketing using the Sneaker example. Engage in 3D artwork using the drawing example. Requires a printed marker image.

Augmenting reality by layering information from the internet onto the ‘world’ as viewed through the camera of the device. Use while on excursions to identify local landmarks using the Wikipedia layar. Read more here.

Investigate placement of internal organs. Other AR examples in a range of KLAs are suggested. Requires a printed marker image.

Screen capture money and tally and graph the notes falling. Create ‘personalised’ money problems to solve; student must calculate how much money is in screen shot. Australian currency is available for .99c in app purchase.

Further information on Aurasma:

Website: http://www.aurasma.com/

‘Aurasma is a free augmented reality (AR) platform that lets you discover, create and share

amazing virtual content, integrated into the real world.’

Aurasma is one of the simplest ways you can create augmented reality resources in your own

classroom. There are two ways you can go:

a) Download the Aurasma Lite app onto your smartphone or tablet and view and create AR

resources on the go (a good place to begin, although with some limitations).

b) Go to the Aurasma website and apply to be a partner (free) to access the Aurasma studio,

which allows you to create AR resources on your computer (more flexibility and potential,

although it is good to be familiar with the concept first).

The information below is specific to creating Auras (augmented reality resources/experiences) using

the Aurasma Lite app.

The app currently works on the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and Android devices. You can download

Aurasma Lite for free from the App Store or Android Market.

http://itunes.com/apps/aurasma/aurasmalite

Using Aurasma Lite

Before you begin: Ensure you have created the video or image you will be attaching to the item. This

is most easily done using the mobile device you will create the aura on. If you have previously created

an image or video you wish to use, email it to the address accessible on the device, and save it from

the email to the camera roll. The Aurasma Lite app only access files from the Camera Roll, so do not

save the image or video anywhere else, or you will not be able to access it to attach it.

Step 1. Open the Aurasma Lite app and select the film button.

Step 2. Line up your image in the view pane. For the best results avoid glare

and try to make the item being photographed as flat as possible.

Step 3. Click to take the shot.

Step 4. The Add Aura window will open. Select My iPad and locate the image or video from your

device. The overlay (the video or image that will appear as the ‘aura’) will be processed. It will then

request for you to give the aura a name. Hit next.

Step 5: The video will be processed, and you can then move, resize or rotate the overlay using the

touch screen. Press save.

Step 6. A speech bubble will appear saying that the Aura is being created. Depending upon the size of

the overlay, it will take anywhere between 10 seconds to several minutes to create. Once created, a

speech bubble will appear saying your Aura is ready to view.

Step 7. To access your Auras, click the button.

From this menu you can edit your auras, view auras created by Aurasma and subscribe to ‘channels’,

which allow you to access and share Auras.
