PCSO charity fund to reach P9 billion this year

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) hopes to extend charity services

to more individuals this year as the agency projects its funding for individual assistance

institutional assistance and other medical and social programs to hit P! "illion#

$t the presentation of the agency%s plans and directions for &' "efore the *ouse

Committee on $ppropriations PCSO +eneral ,anager -erdinand .ojas // said the charity

fund of the PCSO usually represents &' percent of the agency%s operating "udget for the

whole year#

P1 "illion of which a"out P! "illion or &' percent will "e for charity programs and

 projects#

0nga" in4uired how much is the total PCSO funding for medical assistance which

includes medicines medical e4uipment hospital assistance among others# The lawmaker 

 proposed that all medical assistance to needy patients and other individuals "e

consolidated into one program to eliminate leakages#

0nga" said aside from charity funds from the PCSO there are also medical

assistance funds coming from the proceeds of the Sin Tax 5aw allotment to the

2epartment of *ealth (2O*) for assistance to specialty hospitals and state universities

and colleges (S0Cs) with hospitals among others# There are also assistance from the

2epartment of Social 6elfare and 2evelopment (2S62) lawmakers and local

government officials according to 0nga"#

one to eliminate leakages# 6e should make a study on this8 said 0nga"#

The PCSO is the principal government agency mandated to raise and provide funds

for health programs medical assistance and services and charities of national character#

The five charity services of PCSO are9 individual assistance in the form of 

/ndividual ,edical $ssistance Program (/,$P) and :ndowment -und Program;

institutional assistance in the form of financial assistance to institutional partners who are

the regular "eneficiaries facilities upgrading medicine donation and medical e4uipment

donation; special projects; community outreach programs; and mandated contri"utions#

The /,$P include re4uests for9 hospitali<ation; dialysis; medicines; chemotherapy

drugs; la"oratory=diagnostic procedures; and wheelchair hearing aid implant=prosthesis#
