Why couldn‟t I just be normal or Chinese, Malay, Indian anything but Eurasian no national dress, no language but English and the list just went on until my dear father showed me how lucky I was to be able to relate to cultures from different ends of the world. Who could be so fortunate to say I am part French, Dutch, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Burmese, Chinese, a walking United Nations, a Eurasian mystique. Fifty-five members and friends boarded a very com-fortable coach for a winter‟s journey through the sparkling bush to our first stop at North Dandalup Dam for morning tea. The views were breath-taking, although the very low water level is a concern in view of our coming hot weather!

We boarded the coach again for the last part of the journey to Quindanning through miles and miles of jarah forest. We passed the site of the old

Prisoner of War camp Number 16 at Marrinup. German and Italian prisoners of war were based here and sent to work on farms and timber yards throughout the south west.

We arrived at Ye Olde English Inne in Quindanning to roaring log fires and a wonderful Christmas lunch with all the trimmings, including Christmas pudding and custard. The welcoming glass of warm mulled wine was very well received!

The Inne is run by a local farming family and has just been Heritage Listed so it will be preserved for its histori-cal value. It was first built in 1901, with the current build-ings completed in 1925. One of its previous owners was an Indian sea captain with a suspicious past who tried to

use the hotel for a less than reputable pur-pose. This was soon stopped by the local population who threatened to cut down his palm trees! The Inne has a beautiful outside entertaining area nestled close to the banks of the Williams River which unfortunately had hardly any water in it!

All too soon it was time for us to head home. Full of Christmas Cheer and Guinness and Wine, many of us nodded off on the way.

Thanks again to Joan Reincastle and the Seniors‟ Committee for organising another great outing!!
