SAN DIEGO(BUSINESS WIRE)Oct. 19, 1995AUDRE Inc. and the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) havesigned a threeyear agreement covering software upgrades, support and training.
The current AUDRE software was initially installed as early as 1989 at CALTRANS facilities in Oakland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
CALTRANS operators use the software to quickly and economically convert existing maps and engineering drawings from paper,aperture card, microfiche or mylar to intelligent vector formats for subsequent use by ComputerAided Design (CAD) and GeographicInformation Systems (GIS) applications.
AUDRE's software allows CALTRANS to import scanned "as built" plans into an application where the designs can be altered andmaintained in a compressed vector format.
"CALTRANS' decision to upgrade their document conversion is indicative of the important technological role AUDRE software plays insaving the investment made in engineering drawings, electrical schematics and maps over the past years," noted Thomas F. Casey,AUDRE's chief executive officer.
Excalibur Joint Marketing Agreement
AUDRE also announced that Excalibur Technologies Corp. has agreed to cooperate in marketing the new AUDRE VuFlex 2000 softwareto Excalibur resellers and customers. Excalibur Technologies develops and markets document management systems and developertoolkits for text, fingerprint and image retrieval.
Excalibur software is installed at more than 600 corporate and government sites worldwide. Marketing is supported by a worldwidenetwork of more than 100 resellers and distributors, plus strategic alliances with major computer and independent software vendors.
In July 1995, Excalibur merged with ConQuest Software Inc., a leading developer of natural language text management software tools.

The advantages offered by Excalibur EFS include automatic fullcontent indexing and errortolerant "fuzzy searching" for superiorretrieval speed and accuracy.
