Be prepared to sing a memorized song (show tunes work best). You may obtain sheet music by contacting our office in advance if you wish, or you may bring your own to the audition. An accompanist will be provided. Do not bring tapes or CDs. Wear clothing and shoes appropriate for a brief dance audition. Athletic shoes, jazz shoes, or ballet slippers are accept- able. Role Description

Mary Lennox: Girl child. Sullen, argumentative, spoiled. Makes broad transition during course of play. Must have excellent singing/acting ability. Proper English dialect a must. Age: 8-12 years.

Archibald Craven: Crippled (with a deformity of the spine) uncle of Mary. Wealthy, reclusive, seemingly sullen and unfriendly. Acting/Singing most important. Adult Male. Age: 25+

Lily Craven: Adult female. Deceased wife of Archibald. Seen as a beautiful ghost. Singing voice key. Age: 25+

Dr. Neville Craven: Brother to Archibald. Just downright mean. Secretive. Also in love with Lily and very jealous that his "crippled" brother won her love. Adult male: 25+

Colin Craven: Boy child: Supposedly crippled son to Archibald and Lily. His mother died in child birth with him. Father keeps him hidden away in the house. Cousin to Mary. Singing voice (unchanged) and acting ability are key. Age: 8-12

Martha: Chamber maid in the Craven household. Spunky, high spirited, overwhelmingly optimistic. She loves her job and her charge (Mary Lennox). The ability to perform a believable "Yorkshire" dialect is key. Also must have excellent singing voice. Age: 15-20.

Dickon: Brother to Martha. Free spirit, sort of mystical. Loves the outdoors and has a special bond with animals. Ability to maintain a thick, but understandable Yorkshire dialect throughout the show is key. Strong actor with an excellent singing voice (wide range). Age: 16-25.

Rose: Sister to Lily, mother to Mary. Seen first as Mary's uncaring mother, then in ghostly form as Lily's sister. Age: 25+

Ben Weatherstaff: Keeper of the garden. Crotchety older man. Befriends Mary. Must sing, but character voice. Yorkshire dialect. Age: 60+

Mrs. Medlock: Housekeeper at the Craven residence. Mean. Sharp. Pinch lipped. Non singing role. Adult female. Age: 40+

Mrs. Winthrop: Cameo role. Visiting school mistress. Very proper. Age: 30+

Dreamers: This is a very important chorus of ghosts featured throughout the show. They are people from Mary’s life in India. Strong singers required. Minimum 4 men, 3 women

Fakir: Indian mystic who lived in the Lennox household in India. High tenor. Adult male. Age: 25+

Ayah: Mary's Indian nanny. Must sing and move well. Adult female. Age: 18+

Any choir or drama performances. Any lessons.) This production rehearses from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 13th and running through July 21st. Performances will run July 22nd - 30th. Please list any time conflicts you will have during the rehearsal period. Be specific. Note: We take great effort to make a detailed calendar that allows students to only come to rehearsal when we are working on material in which they are involved. For this reason, if a student requests to be absent from a rehearsal or performance date, and if this request was not submitted by auditions (April 29th), then the absence may not be excused and the student may face adverse action including being replaced by another student for the performance and production. Requests for absences received after April 29th may or may not be approved based on the discretion of the directors. In determining whether to grant the request for the absence, the directors shall take into consideration factors including, but not limited to: (1) whether the absence is school related; and (2) the impact of the absence on the rehearsal process and the rest of the production. If the directors deny the request for an unscheduled absence or absence date change, the student or the parent/guardian may appeal in writing the directors’ decision to the County Superintendent or his designee. The appeal to the County Superintendent or his designee must be filed within three (3) business days of the directors’ decision to deny the absence.
