GASTON: (To Belle, handing her flowers) Belle! Oh, Belle...anyone home? Hellloooo!!! I’m just full of surprises.

for you….Mademoiselle. Don’t mention it. You know, Belle there isn’t a giril in town who wouldn’t love to be in

your shoes. This is the day your dreams come true! I know all about them. Picture this. A rustic hunting lodge.

My latest kill roasting on the fire. My little wife massaging my feet while the strapping boys play on the floor

with the dogs. Oh, we’ll have six or seven. Boys, not dogs. So Belle, what’ll it be? Is it “yes” or is it “oh, yes”?

(Belle leaves) That Belle, always playing hard to get. She turned me down for now, but I’ll have Belle for my

wife. Make no mistake about that!

Audition Monologues:

You may choose only one. Pick one of the following monologues and be prepared to perform it with character

and expression at auditions. It does not have to be memorized, but it is suggested and can help your

performance.

BELLE: Hello? Is anyone here? Please, I am looking for my father. Papa, who has done this to you? Your

hands are like ice! We have to get you out of here. I won’t leave you here! (senses the BEAST) Who’s

there? I know someone’s there. Who are you? Then, you’re the one who’s responsible for this! Release

my father at once! No! Wait! Forgive me! Please let me out. Can’t you see he’s not well? But, he’s an old

man. He could die! Please…I’ll do anything. Wait, please…..take me instead! If I take his place, will you let

him go? Wait! Come into the light. (Belle sees him and reacts) You have my word. I will stay. Wait! No,

don’t take him away, not yet! Papa!.......You didn’t let me say goodbye! I’ll never see him again….. And I

didn’t get to say good-bye.

MRS. POTTS– Well, what would you have us do? Give up? I can’t give up until I hear the sound of my boy’s

laughter as he runs through these halls again! I like this girl. I like her spunk. I think that may be the first time

I’ve ever heard him use that word. You see! She’s already starting to have a good influence on him. (Belle

pokes her head out of her room.) Oh, there you are dearie. Glad to see you out and about. I hope the

Master didn’t frighten you too much. He can be a little temperamental...If there is anything we can do to

make your stay more comfortable, let me know! Cogsworth, the lady needs some nourishment!......(to

Cogsworth) Oh, pish tosh! , I’m not about to le the poor child go hungry!

LUMIERE-Cogsworth! The girl! She’s gone! I swear my eyes never left the……..Enchantee, mademoiselle.

(Kisses Belle’s hand) Cogsworth! I am surprised at you. She’s not a prisoner, she’s our guest! We must make

her feel welcome here! …..Of course…..of course! But what is dinner without a little music? Ma chere, Mad-

emoiselle it is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight. And now we invite

you to relax, let us pull up a chair, as the Dining Room proudly presents…...your dinner!

SILLY GIRL– It can’t be true! I don’t believe it. Why would you go and do a thing like that? I can’t bear it! I

simply can’t beat it! Oh, Gaston, say it isn’t so! (Crying)

MAURICE-I’m fine. But I can’t for the life of me figure out why that happened? If that isn't’ the stubbornest

piece of….(kicks it) I’m about ready to give up on this hunk of junk! I mean it this time! I’ll never get this bone

-headed contraption to work! Well, we’d better cracking. This thing’s not going to fix itself. Now let me see,

where did I put that dog-legged clencher?

NARRATOR: Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. Although he had

everytihing his hear desired, the prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. But then, one winter’s night, an old

beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter form the bitter cold. Re-

pulsed b her haggard appearance, the prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away. But she

warned him, not to be deceived by appearances, for beauty in found within. And when he dismissed her

again, the old woman’s ugliness melted away to reveal, a beautiful enchantress. The prince tried to apologize,

but it was too late, for she had seen that there was no love in his heart. And a punishment , she transformed

him into a hideous beast and placed a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there. Ashamed of his

monstrous form, the beast concealed himself inside his castle, with a magic mirror as his only window to the

outside world. The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his 21st year.

If he could learn to love another, earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would

be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years passed, he fell into despair

and lost all hope. For who could ever learn to love a beast?

LEFOU: (To Gaston) You didn’t miss a shot, Gaston. You’re the greatest hunter in the whole world. No beast alive

stand a chance against you! And no girl for that matter. You’ve got your sights set on the inventor’s daughter? Of

course, you deserve the best. That crazy old fool. He needs all the help he can get. You want me to go into the

woods and bring back the biggest dear I can find???? Not the woods! Anything but the woods! You know I hate the

woods. It’s dark and spooky, and there’s bugs and spiders! (Gaston carries Lefou off)
