INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS AUDIO SPOTLIGHTING?

It creates focused beams of sound similar to light beams coming out of a flashlight.

It uses ultrasonic energy to create extremely narrow beams of sound that behave like beams of light

HISTORY AUDIO SPOTLIGHTING invented by Holosonics

Labs founder Dr. F. Joseph Pompei.

First attempts created a single tone (1975).

Audio tone made directive using a transducer array by Ricoh, Japan (1983).

It commercially available in 2000 by the company Holosonics.

THEORY

Into the depth of audio spot lighting

Loudspeakers are direct radiating—that they

fundamentally a piston like device designed to directly pump air molecules into motion to create audible sound we hear

The beam angle of audible sound is very wide, just about 360 degrees

In order to focus sound into a narrow beam, you need to maintain a low beam angle that is dictated by wavelength

Page 7: Audio spot light

The original low frequency sound waves such as human speech or music are applied into an audio spotlight emitter deviceThis low frequency signal is frequency modulated with ultrasonic frequenciesSince ultrasonic frequency is used the wavelength of the combined signal will be in the order of few millimetersSince the wavelength is smaller the beam angle will be around 3 degree, as a result the sound beam will be narrow one with a small dispersion

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

The Audio Spotlight & Hyper Sonic Sound uses ultrasonic energy to create extremely narrow beam of sound that behave like beam of light

These ultrasonic sound have very small wavelength

Features

Physically small speakersNo need for

woofers, voice coils Power efficient Directionality

Resultant audio retains directionality of ultrasonic sound source

Page 17: Audio spot light

APPLICATION 1

Audio Spotlight speakers allow visitor to enjoy music while other read nearby peace & quiet

Page 18: Audio spot light

APPLICATION 2

Using this technology two person can hear different sound while standing close to each other

Page 19: Audio spot light

APPLICATION 3

The US Navy using this technology on deck as a substitute to the radio operator's headphones

ADVANTAGES Can focus sound only at place you want

Ultrasonic emitter devices are thin and flat

The focused or directed sound travels much faster in a straight line than conventional loudspeakers

Dispersion can be controlled-a very narrow or wider to cover more listening area

There is no lag in reproducing the sound

Page 21: Audio spot light

DISADVANTAGES

Line of sight should be clear Directivity directly depends on the length

of the ultrasonic column

Long distance transmission is not possible

Page 22: Audio spot light

CONCLUSION

Audio spotlighting is really going to make a revolution in sound transmission and the user can decide the path in which audio signal should propagate

Due to the unidirectional propagation it finds application in large number of fields.

Audio spotlighting system is going to shape the future of sound and will serve our ears with magical experience

So we can conclude- Audio Spotlighting really “put sound where you want it” and will be “A REAL BOON TO THE FUTURE.”
