How audience feedback helped me during the project

Research- digipaksnatalielewisa2media.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/analysis-of-digipaks.html• I did several interviews for this research, on whatsapp and face to face (giving me a different setting) both with

difference ages. I showed them a few digipaks I owned and also found out what audiences actually know about digipaks themselves. This was vital as I actually did not know what a digipak was prior to this project, even though I owned several myself!

These were the comments I made from these interviews in relation to my future digipak• Narrative features• Simplistic designs • Making the design compact• Song titles that stand out• Colours that work well together• Heavy look at backgrounds as this brings the whole thing together

I believe with my final piece I achieved this, my digipak was simple. The range of colours worked well together and related to my main product itself and many people personally liked the back cover of my digipak best. When planning my ancillary tasks I knew simplicity was easiest as not only does this make it more enjoyable for audiences but fits in more with the genre of my artist

Research- music videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL6poRP99S8In order to find out what audiences want from videos and what they like about them, I got some students to watch a previous media student’s video in order to build on my ideas. • One of the main things the girls enjoyed about the video was the simplicity of it, it wasn’t complicated

or hard to follow. This was something I heavily took on bored and incorporated into my eventual video as audiences do not want to be confused whilst watching it.

• On the other hand, something they heavily disliked about the video was how a lot of it was overwhelming or ‘too much at once’. Therefore I made sure my video was well spaced out and did not disconnect people from the whole video. I made sure during the planning stages that the story was simple to follow and that the shots were not overlapping or complicated.

I interviewed the same 3 girls about their thoughts on the music industry and music videos as a whole. The girls felt that many videos lacked a strong narrative and didn’t have a lot of meaning to them, so I really focused on that when planning the story for our video. We made sure the video had a clear narrative and had meaning, which I think I achieved as many people in the survey I did after finishing the video stated that they loved the narrative.

Planning- choosing our song• Right at the beginning of the planning stages, I had already conducted some

audience feedback when it came to the song. I felt this was really important as the song is the main sound of the video for the audience; some songs would not have worked well and others gave us little to work with. After nailing our choices down to 2 songs, I asked a range of media students on their opinion. • Most chose our final song ‘Da Vinci Riot Police’. I think some of the best feedback

was from media students themselves as they also had to do this project and had their own knowledge of it from their own research. This feedback finalised our song which we thought was an excellent choice.

Planning- fonts• Throughout the planning for my ancillary tasks, I conducted a range of

questionnaire like items to ask for other opinions on my font choices. Though in the end I changed my fonts entirely on my own accord, it was helpful knowing what people thought of the different fonts I was going to choose from, as they are essentially a member of the audience and know what they want to see.

Construction- overall feedback on videonatalielewisa2media.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/4.%20Construction

• Throughout the entirety of my construction, feedback was constantly coming back (whether it be from teachers, friends or just general people.) This was a huge factor in construction as when we had completed our next stage in editing the video, the feedback we got after then dictated what we would focus on next. Particularly when it came to being told some shots looked too dull and vice versa, therefore we colour corrected the video. The feedback was also very useful when it came to pacing our video, at times the tempo becomes very fast, and down to feedback from our teacher we edited the shots and made them a lot shorter in this period of the song in order for it to flow better.

• The feedback in this stage was extremely important as it would then lead on to our final product. It enabled us to correct the mistakes and change it according to how the audience (in this case teachers, friends etc.) wanted it as they would be the ones watching it after it is finished.

After thoughts• Feedback was extremely important throughout the whole project, and it taught me that

there is always things to improve.• Audiences as a whole are what everyone doing this kind of project should rely on, as they

are essentially who you are making it for. This feedback is invaluable as without it, you do not have a sense of direction (especially during construction.) You might think something is done and ‘perfect’, but I’m sure someone will have an opinion on it and disagree, giving you something to work on.

• Even after finishing my video and ancillary tasks, there are things I would still change if I were to go back and do it again. I definitely would have spent more time finalising photoshop skills so my ancillary tasks could have been at a better standard, and perhaps more efficient planning for the video could have enabled us to create something even better, specifically when it came to linking the artist with the narrative. Furthermore, targeting a specific audience would probably have allowed me to follow more focused conventions.
