My first question was asking the gender of the participant, the results mademe aware that I had a sample that was 60% male and 40% female whichmeant that my sample was not equal but rather slightly unbalanced. I had 20participants and so 12 of my participants were male and 8 were female. However, the uk and world population is not balanced in terms of genderanyway and so my research is actually representative of the population.

2. Age

I have noticed from my analysis of that thriller films tend to be rated 15 as a checked a large amount on the bbfc website. My participant sample consisted of:• 29% of 19-25 yrs olds• 29% of 16-18yrs olds• 21% of 12-15yr olds Which means I had a good amount of participants who are within the age criteria to watch thrillers. Also, having a large amount of 19-25yr olds was good for my data, since people within this ageare sociable and are also highly likely to have their own income and very little or noresponsibilities and are therefore most likely to watch or purchase films to watch either withfamily, friends or even alone to discuss with friends after.Similarly 16-18yr olds have a lot of free time and few responsibilities

The largest proportion of my participants was African Caribbean being25% and the second largest was Caucasian and Asian. (Check thepercentage of the population)These are also the three main ethnicities that make up the populationin EnglandThis was useful to me since it helped me to decide on the ethnicitiesof the main characters in my film trailer to so that my audience wouldbe able to identify with the characters.

Most people visit the cinema often (which in the case ofthis questionnaire is 2-3 times a month ) however, frommy next question you can see that a high percentage ofpeople watch their films on Internet streaming sites sothis is not the only dominant platform to watch filmsamongst my participants . The number of platformsavailable to watch them on is increasing.

Cinema

DVD

Internet Streaming

TV

The majority of participants (40%) watch their films via internet streaming, thismakes sense as, most households which have teenagers or young adults in themtend to have at least one of the following: a games console, laptop, smart devicesuch as an ipad or tablet and the internet. Making it very easy to access filmsonline through services such as LoveFilm and Netflix. This is better than if the majority of participants said they watched films on DVDbecause, when streaming, viewers still watch trailers when deciding what towatch and so trailers are just as important as in the cinema.

By far, the main element of thrillers that myparticipants enjoyed was the suspense .This means that I will have to ensure a good amountof suspense is built when creating my trailer in orderfor it to be successful with my target audience.

suspence

Once again, we can see that suspense is extremely important to theaudience also, from this I have gathered that having well known actors is notreally important when it comes to this genre of film, so I will not need tomake it known what other films the actors have been in or what their namesare, as this does not really interest the viewers as much as the storyline andsuspense. Therefore, I will focus on these two aspects most.

The most common way for my participants to find out aboutfilms was Online; this could be on cinemawebsites, YouTube, streaming sites. The second most common way was cinema trailers whichsuggests that film trailers are still extremely important forpromoting films and feeding viewers the vital informationneeded such as genre, storyline and release date.
